Does a Regional Vice President of Sales role qualify for CPT authorization?
It can, but your DSO makes that determination based on your specific program. The role must connect directly to your curriculum, not just your career goals. Sales leadership positions that involve business strategy, revenue operations, or organizational management typically align with MBA, business administration, or marketing degree programs. Bring the job description and your course list to your DSO appointment.
Can I do CPT for a Regional VP of Sales role at a startup without a formal HR department?
Yes, employer size doesn't affect CPT eligibility. What matters is whether the role is curricular and whether your school authorizes it. Smaller companies without dedicated HR may need more guidance on what CPT means for them operationally. Your DSO issues the authorization, not the employer, so the burden is on your school, not the company's HR infrastructure.
How do I find Regional Vice President of Sales roles where employers are open to CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with documented visa sponsorship history so you can target companies already familiar with work authorization. CPT itself requires no employer filing, but employers unfamiliar with it sometimes confuse it with H-1B visa sponsorship. Focusing on companies with existing international hiring experience significantly reduces that friction.
Does full-time CPT in a Regional VP of Sales role affect my OPT eligibility?
Yes. If you use 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you lose OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, doesn't count against that threshold. Regional VP roles are typically structured as full-time positions, so track your cumulative CPT days carefully with your DSO before authorizing the placement.
What happens if my Regional VP of Sales CPT role transitions into a full-time offer after graduation?
You'll need separate post-graduation work authorization, typically OPT or a timely change of status to H-1B if your employer files a petition. CPT authorization ends when your program ends and doesn't carry over. Your employer will need to file an LCA with DOL and a petition with USCIS for H-1B sponsorship, so start that conversation well before your program completion date.
