Group/Division
The Semiconductor Products and Customers (Semi PC) business unit designs, builds and sells KLA’s product portfolio to help chip manufacturers meet high-quality standards for technologies like AI, data centers, automotive and electronic devices. Our inspection, metrology, and analytics systems detect and monitor defects across logic and memory chips, specialty semiconductors, wafers, reticles, advanced packaging, process equipment and materials. We also develop technologies for specialty processes, IC substrates, and PCB manufacturing, including etch and deposition, component inspection, and imaging and analytics. The Measurement, Analytics and Control (MACH) division is KLA’s software powerhouse, responsible for developing high-performance software platforms that support semiconductor manufacturing. MACH delivers cutting-edge technologies in patterning analytics, modeling, and data science—empowering chipmakers to ramp next-gen devices faster and more efficiently. Our cross-functional team of research scientists, software engineers, apps engineers and process engineers are solving the industry’s most complex technical problems.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will play a key part in advancing business priorities by delivering high-impact work across your area of expertise. Software Engineer (AI/ML) intern may work on a variety of tasks including platform for large scale software system, data management, machine learning model training and inference solutions for KLA products. Strong analytical capabilities and problems solving skills are crucial. Familiarity with Machine Learning and Deep Learning solutions would be a big plus. Successful candidates are passionate about software and will have exceptional skills and hands on experience with development in Python, C++, C# or Java. Deep conceptual understanding of multi-threaded and multi process software systems is also necessary. In addition to the above fundamental software skills, any of the following technical hands-on skills are highly desirable.
- Data Structures and algorithms
- Traditional machine learning using Random Forest, XG Boost, Logistic Regression.
- Deep Learning for regression, classification and Generative models.
- TensorFlow or Pytorch, NumPy, scikit-learn, and other ML and DL frameworks.
- Distributed systems for data management.
- Distributed computing infrastructure.
- Cloud technologies for storage, containerization and compute clusters.
- GPU architectures and data management.
Successful candidates for this position will also demonstrate the following non-technical skills.
- Capability to formulate creative solutions through analyzing complex data
- Good communication skills
- Strong team player and motivated by team success
- Strong problem-solving skills

TOTAL REWARDS
Base Pay Range: $22.10 - $42.50 per hour based on pursuit of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Primary Location: USA-TX-Austin-KLA

Can I do CPT at a startup that doesn't have a formal HR department?
Yes. CPT authorization depends on your school's approval and the existence of a formal offer letter, not the size or structure of the employer. Your DSO needs written confirmation of your role, start date, hours per week, and supervisor contact. Startups without HR typically have a founder or engineering lead issue this directly. Confirm the company has a valid EIN, since your school may require it.

What happens if my CPT software engineering role changes scope after authorization?

If your job title, department, or primary work location changes materially, you need to notify your DSO and likely obtain a new or amended authorization before the change takes effect. Working outside your authorized CPT terms creates a status violation. Get any role changes documented in writing from your employer and bring them to your DSO before your next semester enrollment.
