INTRODUCTION
Our mission at Databricks is to radically simplify the whole data lifecycle from ingestion to ETL, BI, and all the way up to ML/AI with a unified platform. To achieve this goal, we believe the data warehouse architecture as we know it today will be replaced by a new architectural pattern, Lakehouse (CIDR 2021 paper), open platforms that unify data warehousing and advanced analytics. The new architecture will help address several major challenges, including data staleness, reliability, total cost of ownership, data lock-in, and limited use-case support. A critical part of realizing this vision is the next generation (decoupled) query engine and structured storage system that can outperform specialized data warehouses in relational query performance, yet retain the expressiveness and of general purpose systems such as Apache Spark™ to support diverse workloads ranging from ETL to data science.

Get Access To All JobsStaff Software Developer CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Staff Software Developer role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the work is an integral part of your academic program and your DSO approves it. Staff Software Developer roles typically involve system design, code review, and cross-functional technical leadership, all of which map cleanly to graduate and upper-division computer science curricula. Your DSO will look for a direct connection between those responsibilities and your enrolled coursework before issuing the authorization.
Can I work full-time as a Staff Software Developer on CPT?
You can, but full-time CPT carries a significant trade-off. Any twelve months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, including the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Many F-1 students in software roles structure their CPT as part-time or keep full-time engagements under that twelve-month threshold to preserve post-graduation work authorization options.
How do I find Staff Software Developer employers open to CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate to filter for companies with verified LCA filing history in software development roles. Employers who have already navigated LCA and H-1B visa filings are far more likely to understand CPT authorization requirements and won't treat your work authorization as an unexpected complication during onboarding.
What documents do I need before starting a CPT job as a Staff Software Developer?
You need an updated Form I-20 with CPT authorization listed on page two, showing the employer name, start and end dates, and whether the authorization is part-time or full-time. Your employer needs a copy of that I-20 for their records. You don't file anything with USCIS for CPT, but you must not start work before the authorized start date on the I-20.
Does CPT for a Staff Software Developer role affect my H-1B eligibility?
CPT itself doesn't affect H-1B eligibility, but it affects your OPT timeline, which is often the bridge to H-1B sponsorship. If full-time CPT exceeds twelve months, you lose OPT and can't use the OPT cap-gap extension to maintain status during the H-1B lottery and processing period. Staying under that threshold keeps your post-graduation options intact.
