Does a Trade Marketing Manager role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role is directly tied to your enrolled curriculum. Trade marketing work, channel strategy, promotional execution, shopper analytics, aligns with marketing, business, and supply chain programs at most universities. Your DSO evaluates whether the specific duties on the offer letter constitute an integral part of your academic program, not just related work in the general field.
Can I do CPT part-time as a Trade Marketing Manager while finishing coursework?
Yes. Part-time CPT is defined as 20 hours or fewer per week and doesn't affect your OPT eligibility regardless of how many semesters you use it. Full-time CPT (over 20 hours per week) for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, so most students in their final year choose part-time arrangements to protect that post-graduation option.
How do I find Trade Marketing Manager roles where employers understand CPT?
Migrate Mate lets you filter for employers with documented sponsorship and work-authorization history in marketing-related roles. Consumer packaged goods companies, retail chains, and regional distributors are the most common CPT hosts for this title, they typically have structured internship programs with HR teams familiar with F-1 work authorization requirements.
What should the offer letter include to satisfy my DSO's CPT approval?
Your DSO needs the employer's legal name, your exact job title, the full address of the work location, your start and end dates, whether the role is full-time or part-time, and a brief description of your duties. A vague letter listing only the title and dates will delay your I-20 update. Request a formal offer letter on company letterhead before submitting your CPT authorization request.
Is a Trade Marketing Manager CPT role a path toward H-1B sponsorship?
It can be, but it depends on whether the employer sponsors H-1B visa petitions independently of their internship program. Trade Marketing Manager qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards because the role requires a bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or a related field. Employers who file Labor Condition Applications with DOL for permanent marketing roles are the strongest candidates for H-1B visa sponsorship after your graduation.
