Creative Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a creative in Tennessee?
Most creative roles in Tennessee require a bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, fine arts, or a related field, combined with a strong portfolio of finished work. Tennessee does not issue a state license for most creative occupations, so employers evaluate candidates primarily on portfolio quality and software proficiency. Graduates from programs at Watkins College of Art, Belmont University, or the University of Tennessee enter the field through agency internships, in-house design teams, or freelance work that builds client experience.
Which companies hire creatives in Tennessee?
Employers hiring creatives in Tennessee right now include USI Insurance Services, Marsh McLennan Agency, and Nexstar Media Group, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Nashville's concentration of entertainment brands, healthcare systems, and national consumer companies means Tennessee has a consistently broad mix of in-house creative roles alongside independent agencies.
Which Tennessee cities have the most creative jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Franklin have the most creative job openings in Tennessee. Nashville's position as a national hub for music, entertainment, healthcare, and corporate headquarters drives the largest share of demand, while Memphis draws on its logistics, healthcare, and hospitality sectors, and Knoxville reflects the University of Tennessee's influence on media and marketing hiring in East Tennessee.
Are there remote creative jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 9% of creative openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work, including design, copywriting, and digital content production, can be delivered independently of a physical office. Roles tied to on-site production, event branding, or physical retail environments tend to require in-person presence, while pure digital and brand strategy positions are the most consistently remote-eligible.
How can I get hired as a creative in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a portfolio through freelance projects, student work, or volunteer campaigns for local nonprofits or small businesses before applying to junior roles. Nashville-area agencies and in-house teams at employers like Asurion and HCA Healthcare occasionally hire entry-level associates and marketing coordinators who move into creative roles with demonstrated skills. Completing a focused certificate in graphic design or digital media at a Tennessee community college and applying to paid internship programs at regional agencies strengthens early applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to creative jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to creative jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and specialty, and apply directly to the ones that interest you.
