Writer Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a writer in Tennessee?
Writing is not a state-licensed profession in Tennessee, so there is no board exam or registration required to work as a writer. Most Tennessee employers expect a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field, along with a portfolio of professional samples. Healthcare-focused roles at Nashville's major medical systems may additionally expect familiarity with medical terminology or experience writing for regulated industries.
Which companies hire writers in Tennessee?
Tennessee writer roles are posted by Mondelēz International, Walmart, and L3Harris and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Nashville's concentration of healthcare systems, corporate headquarters, and country music industry companies makes it the state's most active market for full-time writing positions.
Which Tennessee cities have the most writer jobs?
Nashville, Brentwood, and Knoxville are the Tennessee cities with the most writer openings. Nashville leads because it is home to major healthcare corporations, a large entertainment and media industry, and dozens of corporate headquarters, while Memphis and Knoxville contribute steady demand through regional media outlets, university communications departments, and healthcare networks anchored by large hospital systems.
Are there remote writer jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than most fields, since writing is inherently a desk-based role that translates well to remote work. About 36% of writer openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how widely Tennessee employers have adopted flexible arrangements for content and communications roles. Content strategy, copywriting, and technical writing positions are the most likely to be fully remote.
How can I get hired as a writer in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for content coordinator or communications assistant roles at Tennessee's large healthcare systems, universities, or regional media companies, which regularly bring on writers without extensive professional history. Employers like HCA Healthcare and Vanderbilt University Medical Center run structured onboarding programs suited to early-career hires. Building a portfolio through university publications, freelance bylines, or nonprofit communications work in Tennessee gives candidates a concrete edge over applicants with no published samples.
Where can I find and apply to writer jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to writer jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to each listing without creating a profile or signing up.
