CT Technologist Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ct technologist in California?
To work as a ct technologist in California, you must hold a California Radiologic Technology Certificate, issued by the California Department of Public Health's Radiologic Health Branch. You first complete an accredited radiologic technology or CT-focused program, then pass the ARRT certification exam in Radiography and, typically, the post-primary CT examination. California enforces its own state licensure on top of ARRT, which distinguishes it from many other states.
How much do CT technologists make in California?
CT technologists in California earn a median of about $121,260 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,210 for the lowest 10% to over $165,460 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire ct technologists in California?
Employers hiring ct technologists in California right now include Sutter Health, El Camino Health, and University of California - San Francisco, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense network of integrated health systems and large academic medical centers means consistent, year-round openings rather than seasonal hiring spikes.
Which California cities have the most ct technologist jobs?
San Francisco, Berkeley, and Burlingame have the most ct technologist openings in California. Los Angeles dominates the list because of its concentration of trauma centers, large private hospital systems, and academic medical campuses, while San Diego's military medical infrastructure and biotech corridor and the San Francisco Bay Area's academic medical centers each sustain strong, steady demand of their own.
Are there remote ct technologist jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. CT technologists must operate imaging equipment and work directly with patients, making the vast majority of positions fully on-site. About 0% of ct technologist openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles are typically in teleradiology support, CT protocol development, or imaging quality assurance rather than direct patient scanning.
How can I get hired as a ct technologist in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate technologist programs or CT training rotations offered by large California health systems such as Kaiser Permanente and Cedars-Sinai, which regularly bring in ARRT-certified radiologic technologists and provide hands-on CT cross-training. Candidates currently working as radiologic technologists, MRI technologists, or radiologic technology students completing clinical hours are well-positioned for these roles. Holding your California Radiologic Technology Certificate before applying, even without dedicated CT hours, gives your application a clear edge.
Where can I find and apply to ct technologist jobs in California?
You can find and apply to ct technologist jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your credentials and preferred location, and apply directly to each employer through the posting.
