Custodial Worker Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a custodial worker in Massachusetts?
Custodial work in Massachusetts does not require a state-issued license, so most employers hire based on demonstrated cleaning experience and on-the-job training. Many facilities, particularly hospitals and universities, prefer candidates who have completed OSHA 10-hour general industry training or hold a certification from the International Sanitary Supply Association. Boston-area healthcare and transit employers often provide paid orientation, making direct application to large institutional employers one of the fastest paths in.
Which companies hire custodial workers in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts custodial worker roles are posted by Sodexo, UG2, and Whole Foods Market and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Large healthcare networks, public university systems, and MBTA facilities across the state maintain year-round custodial openings due to high turnover and expanding campuses.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most custodial worker jobs?
Boston, Beverly, and Plymouth have the most custodial worker openings in Massachusetts right now. Boston drives the largest share because of its dense concentration of hospitals, universities, and government buildings, while Worcester and Springfield generate steady demand through their own healthcare campuses and public school systems, which maintain large in-house custodial departments.
How can I get hired as a custodial worker in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
Applying to entry-level building services roles at public school districts, MBTA maintenance facilities, or University of Massachusetts campuses is the most realistic starting point, as these employers regularly hire with no prior custodial experience and train on site. Completing a free OSHA 10-hour general industry course before applying signals safety awareness and sets candidates apart. Porter and building attendant titles are common stepping-stone roles that lead into full custodial positions within the same institution after a probationary period.
Where can I find and apply to custodial worker jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to custodial worker jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles in your preferred city or facility type, find the ones that fit your experience and schedule, and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
