The Enterprise Architect – Infrastructure & Cyber Security is the senior-most architect responsible for setting and governing target-state architecture across infrastructure, network, cloud, and security domains for a global, multi-business manufacturing company. This role defines resilient, secure, and compliant technical architecture for both commercial and regulated environments.
This role partners with the Enterprise Architect - Applications, and other functional peers to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient infrastructure and security platforms aligned to business strategy. As the senior architect within the Infrastructure, Operations, Architecture & Cyber Defense organization, this role sets the target-state architecture that the infrastructure, network, identity, and security operations teams implement, and partners with Governance, Risk & Compliance on control and compliance architecture.
Responsibilities:
- Own the enterprise architecture (EA) strategy, reference architectures, and roadmaps across infrastructure, network, cloud, workplace, and security domains.
- Establish and run the Architecture Steering Committee/Review Board, patterns/standards, and technology lifecycle governance for infrastructure and security.
- Embed reference architectures and standards into technology transitions and into strategic service providers’ operations, so that security and resilience are designed in as delivery shifts toward the outsourced operating model.
- Define multi-cloud strategy (Azure/AWS), hybrid patterns, landing zones, network segmentation, SASE/SD-WAN, and edge architectures.
- Architect OT/IT convergence patterns for plant network segmentation, IIoT, and edge computing, partnering with application and operations architecture as needed.
- Evaluate emerging technologies — including AI and generative-AI adoption and their security-architecture implications — in coordination with the Data, Analytics & AI function and enterprise AI governance.
- Embed Zero Trust, identity, secrets management, PAM, and secure-by-design principles across the environment, in partnership with the Director, Cyber Engineering and Operations.
- Define enterprise logging, telemetry, and observability architecture, including SIEM and detection data sources, in partnership with the Director, Cyber Engineering and Operations.
- Ensure architectures meet SOX, NIST 800-171/CMMC, DFARS 252.204-7012, ITAR/EAR, ISO 27001, and customer contract requirements; segment and protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) as required.
- Define enterprise identity and access architecture (SSO/MFA, PAM, IGA) in partnership with IAM engineering.
- Architect data center, compute, storage, and disaster recovery/business continuity strategy.
- Lead technology due diligence for M&A from an infrastructure and security perspective; define integration blueprints and post-close modernization plans.
- Rationalize infrastructure and security tooling; manage vendor strategy and total cost of ownership for infrastructure and security platforms.
- Translate strategy into executable roadmaps with milestones, budgets, and KPIs.
- Mentor a team of infrastructure- and security-focused domain architects; build an EA community of practice.
- Partner with Finance on infrastructure cost optimization (cloud FinOps, license optimization).
Qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science/Engineering or related; MS/MBA preferred.
- 10+ years in architecture/engineering with 5+ years leading infrastructure or security architecture in complex, global organizations; proven delivery at scale across cloud and network domains.
- Deep expertise in Azure/AWS architecture, landing zones, and infrastructure as code.
- Network segmentation, SASE/SD-WAN, and edge architecture experience.
- Zero Trust, IAM, SSO/MFA, PAM, EDR/XDR, data protection, and logging/observability.
- OT/IT convergence and plant network segmentation experience a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with SOX ITGCs and regulated customer requirements (NIST 800-171/CMMC, DFARS, ITAR/EAR); contract flow-down comprehension.
- Executive presence, clear storytelling, ability to influence across engineering, operations, security, and finance; vendor and SOW negotiation.
- TOGAF or equivalent EA certification; Azure/AWS architect certification; CISSP/SABSA preferred.
- Eligibility to work with export-controlled information; ability to obtain/maintain relevant clearances when required by customer programs.
- Willingness to visit manufacturing sites and suppliers globally.
- Experience in decentralized, acquisitive, multi-business manufacturing environments; able to standardize architecture while respecting business-unit autonomy.
- Familiarity with multi-provider / service-integration (SIAM) operating models in which Corporate IT owns architecture and strategic providers execute operations.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.

Tips for Your Cyber Security Architect Job Search
Align your resume to architecture frameworks
Hiring managers expect cyber security architects to cite specific frameworks like NIST CSF, TOGAF, or SABSA on their resume. Map your past work to outcomes within those frameworks rather than listing tools alone, and you'll clear more automated screens.
Earn certifications that open senior doors
CISSP, SABSA, and CCSP are the certifications that appear most often in senior cyber security architect postings. If you hold one but not the others, prioritize the gap that matches the job families you're targeting before applying to roles that list it as required.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists cyber security architect openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter for the deployment model upfront
Cloud-native, hybrid, and on-premises roles demand different architecture depth. Read job descriptions carefully for the primary environment before applying, so your cover letter and portfolio samples reflect exactly the deployment model the team uses.
Prepare a whiteboard architecture walkthrough
Many cyber security architect interviews include a live design exercise where you diagram a security architecture from scratch. Practice walking through a zero-trust or cloud perimeter design aloud, justifying each control decision as you draw, before your first panel interview.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate salary
Cyber security architect roles vary widely in authority, from advisory to decision-making. Before accepting an offer, clarify who owns final approval on security controls, what your budget authority is, and whether you have a seat at the enterprise architecture table.
Cyber Security Architect Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most cyber security architects?
The companies hiring the most cyber security architects right now include EY, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Leidos, with the largest share of openings in Maryland, Virginia, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Defense contractors, major financial institutions, and large healthcare systems consistently maintain the deepest demand for this role.
How many cyber security architect jobs are remote?
About 70% of cyber security architect openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting strong employer flexibility at the architecture level. Cloud security architect and advisory roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions tied to classified environments or critical infrastructure typically require on-site presence.
How do you become a cyber security architect?
You typically start by building several years of hands-on experience in security engineering, network security, or systems administration, then move into roles with design responsibility. Earning an advanced certification like CISSP or SABSA signals readiness for architecture-level work. From there, you build a portfolio of end-to-end security designs and pursue roles with explicit architecture scope.
Can you get hired as a cyber security architect without prior architecture experience?
Some employers hire security engineers into architect roles if you can demonstrate that you've owned the design of a security control or system end-to-end, not just implemented someone else's design. Framing past projects as architecture decisions, preparing for design-exercise interviews, and targeting smaller organizations with flatter security teams gives you the most realistic path in.
What does the cyber security architect interview process look like?
The process typically runs three to five rounds and includes a recruiter screen, a technical phone interview covering security principles and past design decisions, and at least one live whiteboard or take-home architecture exercise where you design a security solution from requirements. A final panel with engineering leaders and sometimes a CISO is common before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to cyber security architect jobs?
You can find and apply to cyber security architect jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience, specialization, and preferred location, then apply directly to each one that fits.
