Cybersecurity Intern Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cybersecurity intern in Mississippi?
The most direct path is enrollment in a cybersecurity or IT degree program at a Mississippi institution such as Mississippi State University, the University of Southern Mississippi, or Jackson State University, combined with earning a vendor-neutral credential like CompTIA Security+. Mississippi does not require a state-issued license for cybersecurity internship work, so employers focus on academic standing, foundational technical skills, and a clean background suitable for clearance consideration at defense-aligned sites.
Which companies hire cybersecurity interns in Mississippi?
Employers hiring cybersecurity interns in Mississippi right now include Entergy, Corinth, and Capgemini, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Defense contractors and state government agencies anchored in the Jackson metro and along the Gulf Coast account for a large share of these openings.
Which Mississippi cities have the most cybersecurity intern jobs?
Jackson, Mississippi, and Lake consistently lead cybersecurity intern openings in Mississippi. Jackson drives volume through state government IT offices and financial institutions headquartered downtown, while Gulfport and the broader Gulf Coast corridor reflect the concentration of defense contractors and Naval operations linked to Naval Air Station Meridian and Keesler Air Force Base.
Are there remote cybersecurity intern jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, and more than many entry-level roles, since much of the analytical and monitoring work in cybersecurity can be performed offsite. About 100% of cybersecurity intern openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, though positions requiring physical access to classified systems or government networks remain strictly on-site. Threat analysis, security operations center monitoring, and compliance documentation tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a cybersecurity intern in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying through university career offices at Mississippi State or Jackson State, which maintain direct recruiting relationships with state agencies and defense contractors that run structured intern cohorts for students without prior professional experience. Candidates who complete a Capture the Flag competition, a home lab project, or a free certification like Google's Cybersecurity Certificate gain a concrete edge. Lateral moves from IT help desk or network support roles at Mississippi community colleges or healthcare systems also convert regularly into cybersecurity intern positions.
Where can I find and apply to cybersecurity intern jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to cybersecurity intern jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your background and availability, and apply directly to the ones that match.
