Senior IT Project Manager Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior it project manager in Mississippi?
Most hiring managers in Mississippi expect a bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, or business information systems paired with a PMP certification from the Project Management Institute. Mississippi does not issue a state-issued license specific to IT project management, so the PMP functions as the de facto professional credential. Candidates typically build several years of experience managing progressively larger IT initiatives at state agencies, healthcare systems, or enterprise employers before reaching senior-level roles.
How much do senior IT project managers make in Mississippi?
Senior IT project managers in Mississippi earn a median of about $78,870 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,840 for the lowest 10% to over $140,140 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior it project managers in Mississippi?
Mississippi senior it project manager roles are posted by LEGACY HOSPICE, Milwaukee Tool, and Parker Hannifin and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. State government agencies, regional healthcare networks, and regulated utilities in Mississippi represent some of the most consistent sources of senior-level IT project management hiring.
Which Mississippi cities have the most senior it project manager jobs?
Jackson, Olive Branch, and Flowood lead Mississippi in senior it project manager openings. Jackson anchors demand as the state capital and home to major government technology offices, large healthcare networks, and financial services firms, while surrounding suburbs like Ridgeland and Flowood have become secondary concentrations of corporate technology employers that draw from the same metro talent pool.
Are there remote senior it project manager jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 20% of senior it project manager openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves documentation, stakeholder communication, and coordination work that translates well to distributed environments. Program oversight for cloud migrations, ERP rollouts, and software delivery pipelines is especially common in remote configurations.
How can I get hired as a senior it project manager in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a junior project coordinator or IT business analyst role at a Mississippi state agency or a regional healthcare employer like UMMC or Merit Health, where structured project teams are common and internal promotion is routine. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential before applying signals commitment without requiring a full PMP. Lateral moves from IT support lead, systems analyst, or scrum master positions are also well-recognized entry points by Mississippi employers.
