IT Project Manager Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it project manager in Mississippi?
Mississippi does not require a state-issued license to work as an it project manager, so the path runs through education and professional certification. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or business, followed by the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute. Many Mississippi candidates build their qualifying hours through roles at state agencies, healthcare systems, or defense contractors in the Jackson metro before sitting for the PMP exam.
How much do IT project managers make in Mississippi?
IT project managers in Mississippi earn a median of about $78,870 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,840 for the lowest 10% to over $140,140 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it project managers in Mississippi?
Mississippi it project manager roles are posted by LEGACY HOSPICE, Milwaukee Tool, and Parker Hannifin and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mississippi's mix of state government agencies, defense contractors along the Gulf Coast, and regional healthcare networks means hiring is spread across both public-sector and private-sector organizations.
Which Mississippi cities have the most it project manager jobs?
Jackson, Olive Branch, and Flowood have the most it project manager openings in Mississippi. Jackson leads because it concentrates state government IT contracts, major hospital systems like UMMC, and regional corporate headquarters, while Ridgeland and the Gulf Coast cities of Gulfport and Biloxi draw demand from defense and federal contractor operations at Keesler Air Force Base and nearby federal facilities.
Are there remote it project manager jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 40% of it project manager openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on coordination, documentation, and virtual stakeholder meetings. The parts of the role most likely to go fully remote are software implementation and enterprise systems projects, while government and defense contracts in Mississippi more often require on-site or hybrid presence.
How can I get hired as a it project manager in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a business analyst, IT coordinator, or help desk lead role into a junior project manager position. Mississippi state agencies and large healthcare employers like UMMC and Merit Health regularly hire associate project coordinators who shadow senior PMs on active initiatives. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential demonstrates commitment and meets the floor that many Mississippi public-sector postings require before a candidate advances to full project ownership.
Where can I find and apply to it project manager jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to it project manager jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current Mississippi openings from employers across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
