Data Center Infrastructure Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data center infrastructure professional in South Dakota?
Most data center infrastructure roles in South Dakota require a combination of technical certifications and hands-on experience rather than a state-issued license. Employers typically look for credentials such as CompTIA Server+, Cisco CCNA, or a certified data center professional designation. A two-year or four-year degree in information technology or computer science strengthens your candidacy, and many South Dakota employers in finance and healthcare prioritize candidates who have worked in regulated or enterprise environments.
Which companies hire data center infrastructures in South Dakota?
Companies currently hiring data center infrastructures in South Dakota include CVS Health, Sanford Health, and Falcon Plastics, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Dakota's financial services sector, anchored by large card-issuing banks in Sioux Falls, generates particularly steady demand for infrastructure technicians and engineers year-round.
Which South Dakota cities have the most data center infrastructure jobs?
Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Pierre have the most data center infrastructure openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls leads due to its concentration of national banks, insurance companies, and regional healthcare systems, while Rapid City and Pierre generate openings through state government IT operations and utility infrastructure, making both cities viable hiring markets outside the main metro.
Are there remote data center infrastructure jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, but they're rare. Hands-on data center infrastructure work is largely site-dependent, requiring physical access to hardware, cabling, and cooling systems. About 100% of data center infrastructure openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to be in infrastructure monitoring, capacity planning, or vendor management rather than direct facilities work.
How can I get hired as a data center infrastructure professional in South Dakota with little or no experience?

Earning a CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification before applying signals readiness and is recognized by most South Dakota employers. Community college programs at institutions like Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls offer applied networking coursework that directly maps to entry-level data center roles.
