Network Technician Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a network technician in South Dakota?
Most network technicians in South Dakota start with an associate or bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field from institutions like South Dakota State University, the University of South Dakota, or a technical college such as Southeast Technical College or Lake Area Technical College. South Dakota does not require a state-issued license for network technicians. Employers in the state consistently expect CompTIA Network+ or a Cisco credential as the baseline qualification for entry.
Which companies hire network technicians in South Dakota?
Employers hiring network technicians in South Dakota right now include CVS Health, Northrop Grumman, and Midco, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Dakota's largest healthcare systems, financial institutions, and state government agencies account for a significant share of ongoing network technician openings across the state.
Which South Dakota cities have the most network technician jobs?
Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Pierre are the South Dakota cities with the most network technician openings. Sioux Falls leads because it is home to the state's largest healthcare systems, regional banking headquarters, and a growing technology sector, while Rapid City draws demand from healthcare, tourism infrastructure, and federal and state government agencies in the western part of the state.
Are there remote network technician jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, but they're rare. Network technicians are frequently needed on-site to manage physical hardware, run cable, and troubleshoot infrastructure in person. About 20% of network technician openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how hands-on the role typically is. Network monitoring, ticketing, and some cloud infrastructure management tasks are the functions most likely to appear in remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a network technician in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in South Dakota is through a help desk or IT support role at one of the state's large healthcare systems or financial institutions, which often post junior IT positions that feed into networking careers. Southeast Technical College and Lake Area Technical College offer applied networking programs that large South Dakota employers recognize. Earning a CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification before applying gives candidates a measurable edge over others without hands-on experience.
Where can I find and apply to network technician jobs in South Dakota?
