Data Center Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data center in South Carolina?
Most data center roles in South Carolina do not require a state-issued license, but employers consistently hire candidates who hold recognized vendor or industry credentials such as CompTIA Server+, the Data Center Certified Associate, or equivalent certifications. A two- or four-year degree in information technology, computer science, or electrical technology from a South Carolina technical college or university strengthens applications. Candidates without degrees often enter through South Carolina Technical College System programs in networking or electronics, then advance with on-the-job experience.
Which companies hire data centers in South Carolina?
Companies currently hiring data centers in South Carolina include Jacobs, CBRE, and Turner & Townsend Pty Limited, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. South Carolina's expanding colocation and cloud infrastructure sector, anchored by large technology and manufacturing operations in the Columbia and Greenville corridors, means openings appear regularly across both enterprise IT departments and third-party data center operators.
Which South Carolina cities have the most data center jobs?
Spartanburg, Greenville, and Charleston lead for data center openings in South Carolina. Columbia draws the largest share because of its concentration of state government IT infrastructure, university systems, and enterprise technology offices, while Greenville and Charleston reflect the state's manufacturing and logistics technology growth, where companies operating large regional facilities require on-site data center support staff.
Are there remote data center jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. Data center work is inherently hands-on, requiring physical presence for hardware maintenance, cabling, and facilities monitoring, so most roles require on-site availability. About 45% of data center openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, and those positions are almost always in remote monitoring, NOC analysis, or administrative coordination rather than infrastructure technician roles.
How can I get hired as a data center in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a technical program at one of South Carolina's technical colleges, such as Midlands Technical College or Greenville Technical College, which offer networking and IT infrastructure coursework that aligns directly with data center technician hiring criteria. Large employers and colocation operators in the Columbia and Greenville areas regularly hire entry-level technicians for cabling, hardware staging, and remote hands roles. Candidates coming from adjacent positions such as IT help desk, field service technician, or electrician apprenticeships are competitive, and holding a CompTIA A+ or Server+ certification significantly improves early-career prospects.
Where can I find and apply to data center jobs in South Carolina?
