How do you become a data scientist in Arkansas?
Data science in Arkansas requires no state-issued license, so the hiring path runs through education and demonstrated skills. Most employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline, and a master's is common for senior roles. Candidates strengthen their candidacy through portfolio projects, open-source contributions, and credentials such as Google's Data Analytics Certificate or AWS certifications, which are well recognized by Arkansas employers in retail, healthcare, and government sectors.
How much do data scientists make in Arkansas?
Data scientists in Arkansas earn a median of about $109,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,090 for the lowest 10% to over $169,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data scientists in Arkansas?
Companies currently hiring data scientists in Arkansas include Walmart, Sam's Club, and Summit Utilities, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Arkansas's mix of large retail headquarters in Bentonville and major healthcare systems in Little Rock means demand cuts across both consumer and clinical data science disciplines.
Which Arkansas cities have the most data scientist jobs?
Bentonville, Fort Smith, and Springdale lead Arkansas for data scientist openings. Little Rock draws demand from state government agencies, Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield, and several regional hospital systems, while Bentonville and the broader northwest Arkansas corridor is driven by Walmart's global headquarters and its dense supplier ecosystem, which together generate substantial analytics and data engineering hiring.
Are there remote data scientist jobs in Arkansas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of data scientist openings tied to Arkansas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based, cloud-driven nature of the work. Roles focused on machine learning research, business intelligence reporting, and data engineering tend to offer the most location flexibility, while positions embedded with on-site operations or clinical teams are more likely to require in-person attendance.
How can I get hired as a data scientist in Arkansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a data analyst or business intelligence analyst role, which Arkansas employers regularly use as a pipeline into data science. Walmart and its supplier network in northwest Arkansas hire data and analytics associates who support senior scientists before moving into independent modeling work. Arkansas Children's Hospital and UAMS similarly bring on entry-level health data analysts. A strong portfolio of end-to-end projects on GitHub and a foundational cloud certification give candidates a measurable edge over others without professional experience.
