Dentist Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a dentist in Pennsylvania?
To practice dentistry in Pennsylvania, you must earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from an accredited dental school, pass the National Board Dental Examinations, and obtain a license from the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry. Licensure also requires passing a clinical examination accepted by the Board. Graduates often complete a general practice residency before entering private or institutional practice in the state.
How much do dentists make in Pennsylvania?
Dentists in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $163,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $65,520 for the lowest 10% to over $316,950 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire dentists in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring dentists in Pennsylvania right now include Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Aspen Dental, and Dental Dreams, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's mix of large academic health systems, community health centers, and corporate dental groups means openings exist across a broad range of practice settings throughout the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most dentist jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Lancaster have the most dentist openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia dominates due to its density of hospital systems, academic dental programs, and large group practices, while Pittsburgh's concentration of UPMC-affiliated clinics and community health centers drives strong hiring, and Allentown reflects growing demand in the Lehigh Valley's expanding suburban healthcare corridor.
Are there remote dentist jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. Dentistry is a hands-on clinical role that requires in-person patient care, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of dentist openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the small share of roles in dental consulting, utilization review, or teledentistry triage that can be performed off-site.
How can I get hired as a dentist in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a general practice residency or an associate dentist position at a group practice or federally qualified health center. Large Pennsylvania employers such as UPMC and Penn Medicine affiliated clinics regularly take new graduates, and community health organizations across Philadelphia and Pittsburgh post associate roles that do not require prior independent practice experience. Holding an active Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry license and completing any residency training significantly strengthens a new-grad application.
Where can I find and apply to dentist jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to dentist jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your specialty and experience level, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
