Deputy Attorney General Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a deputy attorney general in Maryland?
You must hold a Juris Doctor and be an active member of the Maryland State Bar, which requires passing the Maryland Bar Examination administered by the Maryland State Board of Law Examiners and completing character and fitness review. Most positions are with the Maryland Office of the Attorney General or other state agencies, and candidates typically apply through Maryland's state employment portal. Attorneys licensed in another state may seek admission on motion if they meet Maryland's reciprocity requirements.
Which companies hire deputy attorney generals in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring deputy attorney generals in Maryland include M.C. Dean, Dewberry, and Lockheed Martin, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Beyond private-sector employers, the Maryland Office of the Attorney General and large public university systems in the state are among the most consistent sources of openings.
Which Maryland cities have the most deputy attorney general jobs?
Hanover, Baltimore, and Bethesda have the most deputy attorney general openings in Maryland. Baltimore and Annapolis dominate because they are home to the state's principal government agencies and courts, while the D.C.-adjacent suburbs in Montgomery and Prince George's counties draw openings tied to federal contract work, large healthcare systems, and corporate legal departments with a Maryland presence.
Are there remote deputy attorney general jobs in Maryland?
Yes, but they're rare. About 18% of deputy attorney general openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how court appearances, agency hearings, and in-person client work anchor most of these roles to a physical location. The portions of the role most suited to remote work are legal research, brief writing, and document review.
How can I get hired as a deputy attorney general in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a law clerk or judicial extern position with a Maryland circuit court or the Court of Special Appeals, which provides directly relevant litigation exposure. The Maryland Office of the Attorney General runs a summer fellowship and post-bar clerkship program for new attorneys. Adjacent roles such as assistant state's attorney with a Maryland county state's attorney's office or staff counsel at a state agency are common lateral moves that open the door to deputy attorney general positions.
Where can I find and apply to deputy attorney general jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to deputy attorney general jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings from employers across the state. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly.
