ABOUT THE JOB
Passionate people are everywhere at Google. In Developer Relations, we get excited to collaborate and connect with the communities that love technology as much as we do. Part community manager and part developer advocate, Developer Relations Engineers collaborate with developers at conferences and online, and advocate for developers interests internally at Google. Not afraid to be hands-on, you write sample code and client libraries as well as participate in developer forums and support queues to troubleshoot and debug coding problems developers encounter. Internally, you work with product engineering teams to improve our products by conveying feedback from developers, reviewing API designs and testing new features. With your technical expertise, you drive strategy around fostering a community of developers who work with Google technologies. An ardent advocate for these developers, you represent their voice internally to our Product Managers and serve as their Google support in application development and technology implementation. Our team explores what's next for Cloud and developers by running experiments, reporting findings to our organization, and aligning teams that we can capitalize on in the market. We work both as individuals and as a team to evaluate nascent technologies, patterns, and ideas to determine their relevancy for developers. We do our work publicly so all developers can learn from our successes and failures. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

How do I get a senior level developer relations engineer job?
Employers at this level look for candidates who have led developer programs end to end, built or grown technical communities, and influenced product direction through developer feedback. A strong portfolio of conference talks, open source contributions, or published developer content carries significant weight. Demonstrated ability to mentor junior relations engineers and collaborate with engineering and product leadership gives candidates a clear edge.

Senior level developer relations engineer roles are distinguished by ownership of program strategy rather than execution of assigned tasks. Professionals at this stage define the developer advocacy roadmap, make independent decisions on community investments and content priorities, and mentor earlier-career team members. They operate as a connective bridge between engineering leadership and the external developer ecosystem, influencing product decisions with developer insight.
Which industries hire the most senior level developer relations engineers?
