Development Engineer Jobs in Irvine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development engineer job in Irvine?
Focus on Irvine's three dominant hiring sectors: semiconductor and integrated circuit design clustered around the Irvine Spectrum, medical devices and diagnostics in the Irvine Business Complex, and defense and aerospace along the 5 and 405 corridors. Candidates with hands-on hardware or firmware experience get the strongest response. Familiarity with ISO or FDA design-control processes gives a real edge with Irvine's heavily regulated medical and defense employers.
Which companies hire development engineers in Irvine?
Employers hiring development engineers in Irvine right now include Amazon, Broadcom, and Telescent, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Irvine's employer mix skews toward mid-size technology and life sciences companies, many of which have North American engineering headquarters or R&D centers in the city.
Are there remote development engineer jobs in Irvine?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for development engineers because most roles involve lab work, hardware prototyping, or on-site testing. About 36% of development engineer openings tied to Irvine are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be software-adjacent roles in systems validation or technical program management rather than core hardware development.
How can I get a development engineer job in Irvine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Irvine is a test or validation engineer role at one of the city's semiconductor or medical device firms, which regularly bring on candidates with a relevant degree and minimal industry experience. Irvine employers like contract engineering firms and mid-size device companies also hire associate development engineers and product engineers as stepping stones. A capstone project, internship, or co-op with a local company is the clearest differentiator.
Which industries hire the most development engineers in Irvine?
Irvine development engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Electronics & Hardware, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Irvine's position as a planned technology hub with close proximity to UCI's engineering programs and Southern California's defense contractors drives sustained demand across each of those sectors.
