Development Engineer Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a development engineer in Idaho?
Most development engineer roles in Idaho require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or materials engineering from an accredited program. Idaho does not require a state-issued professional engineer license for most private-sector development roles, but earning a Professional Engineer credential through the Idaho Board of Licensure of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors strengthens candidacy for senior positions. Employers in semiconductor and defense sectors often require specific clearances or process certifications in addition to a degree.
How much do development engineers make in Idaho?
Development engineers in Idaho earn a median of about $106,740 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $97,150 for the lowest 10% to over $174,970 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire development engineers in Idaho?
Employers hiring development engineers in Idaho right now include Micron Technology, Micron Idaho Semiconductor Manufacturing (Triton), and Stantec, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Idaho's concentration of semiconductor fabs, national laboratory research programs, and agricultural equipment manufacturers creates a broad and steady base of development engineering demand across the state.
Which Idaho cities have the most development engineer jobs?
Boise, Rigby, and Idaho Falls are the Idaho cities with the most development engineer openings. The Boise-Nampa metro leads because of its dense cluster of semiconductor and technology manufacturers, while Idaho Falls draws consistent postings tied to Idaho National Laboratory and the broader energy and nuclear research industry that anchors the eastern part of the state.
Are there remote development engineer jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're limited. Development engineering often involves hands-on lab work, prototype builds, or direct involvement with manufacturing lines, which limits full-remote options compared to purely analytical roles. About 0% of development engineer openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. The portions of the role most likely to support remote work include documentation, design review, and simulation analysis rather than on-floor process development.
How can I get hired as a development engineer in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is pursuing an internship or new-graduate rotational program directly with Idaho's major engineering employers. Micron Technology and Idaho National Laboratory both run structured early-career and internship pipelines that place candidates in development-adjacent roles before a full engineer hire. Candidates moving from adjacent roles such as manufacturing technician, process technician, or quality engineer can also transition into development positions by demonstrating hands-on process knowledge. A relevant degree and any certifications in CAD, Six Sigma, or materials testing add meaningful weight to an entry-level application.
Where can I find and apply to development engineer jobs in Idaho?
You can find and apply to development engineer jobs in Idaho on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
