Development Engineer Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development engineer job in Houston?
Target the sectors that drive Houston's development engineer market: oil and gas operators, EPC firms, petrochemical plants, and industrial manufacturers concentrated in the Energy Corridor, Pasadena, and La Porte. Hands-on experience with process or product development in energy or heavy industry stands out here. Familiarity with subsurface systems, refinery processes, or materials engineering gives candidates a clear edge over generalists in this city's market.
Which companies hire development engineers in Houston?
Houston development engineer roles are posted by Saber Power Services, Houston Astros, and Intuitive Machines and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's hiring landscape skews toward large energy operators, midstream companies, and specialty chemical manufacturers, alongside a growing cluster of aerospace and advanced manufacturing firms near the Johnson Space Center corridor in Clear Lake.
Are there remote development engineer jobs in Houston?
Yes, but only partially: development engineering is inherently tied to labs, plants, and field sites, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 25% of development engineer openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to cover the analytical or documentation-heavy phases of a project. Roles at software-adjacent or data-driven energy tech firms in Midtown and Greenway Plaza offer the most hybrid flexibility.
How can I get a development engineer job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through internship or co-op programs at major energy operators or EPC contractors, many of which recruit from the University of Houston and Texas A&M. Look for titles like junior process engineer, engineering associate, or product development technician as stepping stones. Entry-level roles in industrial testing, quality, or applications engineering at Houston-area manufacturers also build the hands-on credentials that local employers look for before hiring into full development roles.
Which industries hire the most development engineers in Houston?
Houston development engineer roles concentrate in Energy, Sports & Recreation, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's identity as a global energy hub means oil and gas, petrochemicals, and downstream refining collectively account for the largest share of local demand, with aerospace and industrial equipment manufacturing adding a substantial secondary cluster south and southeast of the city center.
