Development Manager Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development manager job in Richmond?
Focus your search on Richmond's three dominant hiring sectors: healthcare systems anchored in the Medical College of Virginia corridor, financial services firms in the Downtown core, and government contractors clustered in the West End and Henrico County. Candidates with a mix of Agile delivery experience and direct client or stakeholder management stand out locally. Building connections through Richmond tech and PMO meetups also accelerates hiring conversations here.
Which companies hire development managers in Richmond?
Employers hiring development managers in Richmond right now include VHB, CVS Health, and Capital One, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Richmond's hiring base skews toward large health systems, regional banks, insurance carriers, and defense-adjacent technology firms, each of which runs active development functions year-round.
Are there remote development manager jobs in Richmond?
Yes, though availability depends on the role type. Development manager positions tied to hands-on construction or facilities work are almost always on-site, while software development and program management roles are frequently flexible. About 83% of development manager openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the remote share concentrated in tech and financial services roles rather than healthcare or government contracting positions.
How can I get a development manager job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is moving up from a project coordinator or junior project manager role inside one of the city's large health systems or regional financial institutions, which regularly promote from within. Contract roles with government contractors in Henrico County also offer structured pathways into development management. Earning a PMP or Scrum certification before applying noticeably strengthens local candidacy, since Richmond employers frequently list both as preferred qualifications.
