At SimPL Freight Solutions, we simplify transportation for companies that move a lot of freight but don't want the headache of managing it all themselves. We step in as their transportation team - coordinating shipments, managing carrier relationships, tracking performance, and improving how everything runs behind the scenes.
Our customers range from large manufacturers to high-volume distributors across industries like automotive, building materials, food, and packaging. No matter the industry, the goal is the same: keep freight moving smoothly, efficiently, and without surprises.
We pride ourselves on being proactive, responsive, and accountable - anticipating issues, communicating clearly, and continuously finding better ways to deliver results.
Position Overview
SimPL is seeking a Director of Account Management to lead and develop our Account Management team while strengthening the health, retention, and growth of our customer portfolio.
This position serves as a key connection between our customers and SimPL's Account Management, Operations, Procurement, Accounting, Sales, and leadership teams. The Director will establish consistent account-management practices, ensure customer and operational concerns are addressed proactively, and help the team turn performance data into meaningful action.
The ideal candidate is an experienced people leader who understands managed transportation, builds credibility with customers and internal teams, and knows how to balance service, relationships, profitability, and growth.
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, and develop SimPL's Account Managers while establishing clear expectations, priorities, and performance standards.
-
Create consistent processes for customer communication, account documentation, KPI reporting, business reviews, and follow-through.
Ensure SimPL develops strong relationships with multiple contacts across each customer organization rather than relying on a single point of contact.
Establish an effective customer communication cadence and participate in strategic meetings, escalations, and business reviews as needed.
Partner with Operations to review account performance, customer KPIs, service trends, and outstanding issues each week.
Ensure service failures and recurring challenges have clear causes, owners, corrective actions, and deadlines.
Monitor the overall health and financial performance of each account, including profitability, cost-to-serve, receivables, contract requirements, and renewal risks.
Identify customer-retention risks early and ensure appropriate action plans are developed and completed.
Identify opportunities to expand SimPL's services and deliver additional value to existing customers.
Provide leadership with clear reporting on account performance, relationship strength, profitability, escalations, and risk.
Support the hiring, onboarding, training, and continued development of Account Management team members.
What Success Looks Like
Strong customer retention and improved health of at-risk accounts.
Consistent achievement of customer KPIs and service-level expectations.
Meaningful relationships across multiple levels of each customer organization.
Healthy account profitability and timely resolution of receivables concerns.
Effective customer business reviews and continuous-improvement initiatives.
Account Managers who demonstrate ownership, accountability, and continued professional growth.
What You'll Bring
7+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, managed transportation, supply chain, or a related industry.
5+ years of customer-facing account management or strategic account experience.
3+ years of direct people-management experience.
Demonstrated success managing large, complex, or strategic customer relationships.
Experience managing customer KPIs, service-level agreements, business reviews, escalations, and performance-improvement initiatives.
Experience evaluating account profitability, receivables, pricing, margin, or cost-to-serve.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach others, establish expectations, and hold a team accountable.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to work effectively with customers and executive leadership.
The ability to interpret operational and financial data and translate it into clear action plans.
Strong organization, judgment, and a proactive approach to working in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in managed transportation, third-party logistics, freight brokerage, or transportation management is strongly preferred. Familiarity with transportation management, customer relationship management, and reporting platforms - particularly Salesforce or Revenova - is a plus.

Tips for Your Director Of Account Management Job Search
Quantify retention and expansion metrics
Hiring managers for director of account management roles expect hard numbers. Lead your resume with net revenue retention rates, expansion ARR percentages, and portfolio size by contract value, not just headcount managed or tenure length.
Tailor your story to the segment
Enterprise, mid-market, and SMB account management are treated as distinct disciplines. Read each job description for the customer segment, then reframe your experience to match that motion, down to the deal sizes and renewal cycles you handled.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists director of account management openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Show cross-functional influence on your resume
Directors of account management are expected to align sales, customer success, and product. Highlight moments where you drove QBR strategy, influenced roadmap decisions, or resolved escalations by coordinating across departments rather than acting alone.
Prepare a portfolio of account growth narratives
Before interviews, build two or three concise case studies covering an at-risk account you saved, a flat account you expanded, and a complex renewal you closed. Specific timelines and outcomes make these far more credible than general statements.
Negotiate scope not just base in offers
When you reach the offer stage, ask about portfolio size, team headcount, and quota attainment history alongside compensation. A director of account management role with an unrealistic book of business or thin support structure is a retention risk worth understanding upfront.
Director Of Account Management Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most director of account managements?
The companies hiring the most director of account managements right now include Vantage Point Logistics, Qumulo, and Aircall, with the largest share of openings in California, Arizona, and Ohio, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand is especially strong in SaaS and enterprise software, where account retention and expansion have become board-level priorities.
How many director of account management jobs are remote?
About 89% of director of account management openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much client relationship work has shifted to digital channels. Roles focused on enterprise renewals and strategic account planning tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while positions requiring frequent on-site executive meetings are more likely to be hybrid or office-based.
How do you become a director of account management?
Most directors of account management move up from senior account manager or account management team lead roles after consistently hitting retention and expansion targets. Building credibility requires owning a measurable book of business, then stepping into people management by mentoring junior reps or leading a pod. Demonstrating cross-functional influence, particularly the ability to align product and sales around customer outcomes, is what typically triggers a promotion or attracts director-level offers externally.
Can you get hired as a director of account management without prior director experience?
Yes, many candidates land their first director of account management role by making a strong internal case or targeting companies going through rapid growth. The clearest path is holding a senior account manager or team lead title while already doing director-level work, such as managing a large enterprise portfolio, running forecasting, or coaching a small team. Framing your resume around outcomes and scope rather than title closes the gap effectively.
What does the director of account management interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen focused on portfolio size and leadership experience, followed by a hiring manager conversation about retention strategy and team philosophy. From there, most companies run a panel with cross-functional stakeholders, often including someone from sales leadership or customer success. A final stage frequently involves a case study or presentation asking you to walk through how you would handle a specific account scenario, such as a renewal at risk or a stalled expansion.
Where can I find and apply to director of account management jobs?
You can find and apply to director of account management jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from companies across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and target segment, then apply directly to each one that fits.
