Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Backend Java Developer
Translate your Australian degree for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian computer science or software engineering degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a four-year U.S. bachelor's for E-3 visa purposes. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before applications begin, so hiring managers don't stall over equivalency questions.
Filter employers by LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for Java developer roles. Prior LCA filings confirm the employer understands the E-3 process and has done it before.
Find E-3 sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Backend Java Developer roles at companies with active E-3 sponsorship history. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you land an offer.
Confirm the role title matches your specialty occupation
Your offer letter's job title and duties must satisfy the USCIS specialty occupation definition. 'Backend Java Developer' is strong, but vague titles like 'software generalist' can complicate your LCA. Ask your employer to align the posted title with your actual technical responsibilities.
Request E-3 timelines from your employer early
LCA certification from DOL typically takes seven business days, followed by consulate scheduling. Ask your employer to start the LCA the day your offer is signed. Delays in LCA filing are the most common reason start dates slip for Australian developers.
Prepare for contractor and remote-first employer structures
Many backend roles involve third-party worksites or fully distributed teams. For E-3, the petitioning employer must be your legal employer of record. Verify that your offer comes from the entity filing the LCA, not a staffing intermediary, to avoid consular complications.
E-3 Visa Backend Java Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Backend Java Developer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for roles with E-3 sponsorship. You can filter Backend Java Developer listings by companies that have a demonstrated history of E-3 filings, which removes the guesswork of cold-applying and hoping an employer understands the visa process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Backend Java Developer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Backend Java Developer positions require a theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge, and USCIS consistently recognises software development roles requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field as specialty occupations. Your offer letter should specify the degree requirement to support the LCA filing.
How does the E-3 compare to H-1B for Australian backend developers?
The E-3 has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been fully used, so there's no lottery and no multi-year wait. H-1B selection is lottery-based with roughly a one-in-four chance in recent years. For Australian developers, the E-3 is a direct path: secure an offer, file an LCA with DOL, and attend a consulate appointment in Australia or a third country.
Can I switch backend development jobs while on an E-3?
Yes, but the E-3 is employer-specific, so your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new visa stamp if yours is expiring. There's no portability provision like H-1B's AC21 rule. Plan the transition carefully: your current E-3 status remains valid until its expiry, but you cannot work for the new employer until the new LCA is certified.
