Frame your Australian degree for U.S. recruiters
A three-year Australian bachelor's in computer science or software engineering is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 visa specialty occupation purposes. Get a credential evaluation letter ready before you start applying.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for Android Developer or mobile software engineer roles. Employers with recent LCA activity already understand the E-3 process and won't need hand-holding.
Position Android specialisation in your job search
Recruiters screening for E-3 candidates often filter by specialty occupation fit. Listing Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Android SDK prominently signals a clearly bounded technical specialisation that maps cleanly to the degree-requirement test consular officers apply.
Clarify the LCA timeline before accepting an offer
The DOL typically certifies an LCA within seven business days, but your employer needs to post the LCA at the worksite for ten days before filing. Confirm your start date accounts for both windows so you're not scrambling after signing.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork
Once you have a signed offer letter, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from LCA submission through consulate appointment preparation, so filing errors don't delay your start date.
Prepare for intent questions specific to software roles
Consular officers may probe nonimmigrant intent if you're relocating permanently for a senior-level role. Having a clear account of your project scope, reporting structure, and why the role is U.S.-based strengthens your interview position.
E-3 Visa Senior Android Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Senior Android Developer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Senior Android Developer roles at employers with confirmed E-3 and LCA filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored an Australian before. Filtering by role and visa type gives you a focused list of genuine opportunities rather than generic job postings.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Senior Android Developer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Senior Android Developer positions require a theoretical and practical application of highly specialised knowledge, typically a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. USCIS and consular officers consistently treat senior-level mobile software engineering roles as qualifying specialty occupations, provided the job description specifies degree requirements rather than accepting any bachelor's degree as sufficient.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for a Senior Android Developer?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no numerical cap that affects most applicants, so you can apply when you have a job offer rather than waiting for an April registration window. The H-1B visa requires winning a randomised lottery before USCIS even reviews the petition. For Australian nationals, the E-3 is the faster and more predictable path to starting work in the U.S. in a senior Android role.
Can I switch employers or take on contract work on an E-3 as a Senior Android Developer?
You can change employers, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp or a change of status before starting work. Contract or consulting arrangements are possible if the contracting entity acts as your employer of record and files the required LCA, but independent contractor arrangements where no single employer sponsors you do not qualify under E-3 rules.
