Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Junior Software Developer
Align your degree to the role description
Your Australian bachelor's degree must correspond to the specific field the job requires. If your degree is in IT or information systems, confirm the job description lists a technical degree requirement, not just a preference, before applying.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use the DOL's public LCA disclosure data to identify employers who have already filed for software developer roles. These employers understand the E-3 visa process and are less likely to stall on sponsorship once they extend an offer.
Get your credential evaluation done early
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees, but some employers ask for written confirmation. Request a credential evaluation before interviews so you can address questions without delay.
Raise sponsorship before the offer stage
Bring up E-3 sponsorship during the final interview round, not after. Explain that you only need your employer to file an LCA with the DOL, there's no lottery, and the process can move faster than most employers expect.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for post-offer paperwork
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This avoids the delays that come when employers try to manage the DOL filing process without prior experience.
Understand your 60-day grace period before your start date
If your current U.S. status is expiring, you have a 60-day grace period after your employment ends to secure a new E-3. Starting the LCA process with your new employer as soon as the offer is signed keeps you within that window.
E-3 Visa Junior Software Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Junior Software Developer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards, Migrate Mate surfaces Junior Software Developer positions at employers with a history of sponsoring Australian workers, so you're not spending time on roles that won't move forward.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Junior Software Developer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the job description requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical field. If the posting says a degree is preferred rather than required, or accepts any bachelor's degree regardless of field, the role may not meet the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies to E-3 applications.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Junior Software Developer roles?
The H-1B requires entering an annual lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate, which means most applicants don't get selected in a given year. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so Australian developers can apply whenever they have a qualifying job offer. The employer filing requirements are also lighter, which makes smaller tech employers more willing to sponsor an E-3 than an H-1B.
Can I start a Junior Software Developer role on an E-3 while still in Australia?
Yes. You apply for the E-3 visa at a U.S. consulate in Australia, typically Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth, after your employer files and receives a certified LCA from the DOL. Consulate appointment wait times vary, but the E-3 does not require USCIS to approve a petition first, which typically makes the timeline shorter than H-1B consular processing.
