Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in DevOps
Align your degree to your DevOps title
USCIS scrutinizes the connection between your credential and your job title. A degree in computer science or information systems maps cleanly; a business degree paired with certifications like AWS or Kubernetes typically does not satisfy the specialty occupation standard on its own.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for software engineering or infrastructure roles already understand the E-3 visa process. Searching DOL's FLAG portal for past LCA certifications in your target city narrows your list to employers who won't need educating on sponsorship.
Clarify the job title before the offer stage
Generic titles like 'Engineer' or 'IT Specialist' can complicate specialty occupation approval. Ask your hiring contact early whether the role can be listed as 'DevOps Engineer' or 'Site Reliability Engineer,' which carry clearer degree-requirement precedent at USCIS.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and consulate prep
The LCA must be certified by DOL before you can book your consulate appointment, and mistakes in the wage attestation are a common delay point. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so you don't stall at the paperwork stage.
Confirm your employer's prevailing wage compliance upfront
The LCA requires your employer to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. If the offer comes in below that threshold, the filing will fail. Get a written offer before the LCA is submitted and cross-check it against DOL wage data for your job zone.
Prepare for a third-country interview if you're already in the U.S.
If you're changing status from another visa, your E-3 stamp must be obtained at a consulate. Australian nationals can use Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth, but appointment wait times vary by city. Build at least four to six weeks of lead time into your start date negotiation.
E-3 Visa DevOps: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find DevOps jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces DevOps roles at employers who have demonstrated E-3 or H-1B visa filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with Australian visa sponsorship. Filter by role, location, and visa type to focus your applications on employers already set up to hire you.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a DevOps role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, DevOps Engineer and related titles like Site Reliability Engineer and Platform Engineer consistently qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as computer science or information systems. The degree-to-role alignment matters: employers advertising the position as degree-optional can create problems at the consulate.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for DevOps professionals?
The E-3 is substantially faster and more predictable for Australian nationals. The H-1B is subject to an annual lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate, meaning you could apply and wait months only to be rejected outright. The E-3 has no lottery and no numerical cap, so once your employer files the LCA and you clear your consulate interview, you can start work. The application process is also simpler and less expensive.
Can I switch DevOps employers on an E-3 visa?
You can, but you need to start the filing process over with the new employer. The E-3 is employer-specific, so your current visa stamp becomes invalid once you stop working for the sponsoring company. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp from an Australian consulate before starting the new role.
