Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Technical Lead
Document your technical leadership scope clearly
Your E-3 petition lives or dies on whether the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Gather written evidence that your Technical Lead position requires a specific degree field, not just any bachelor's degree, before approaching U.S. employers.
Target employers with existing LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway disclosure data to find companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for technical roles. These employers already understand the E-3 process and won't need convincing that sponsorship is feasible.
Clarify reporting structure during salary negotiations
The LCA locks in your worksite and prevailing wage tier before your visa is issued. If your role spans multiple office locations or includes remote work, confirm exactly which worksite the employer will list, as changing it later requires a new LCA filing.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and paperwork
Once you have an offer, the LCA must be DOL-certified before your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the timeline between offer acceptance and your interview stays as short as possible.
Address the specialty occupation question before your interview
Consular officers increasingly scrutinise Technical Lead titles because they can describe both highly specialised and broadly generalist roles. Bring a detailed offer letter specifying the degree field required and the technical systems you'll own, not just team size or seniority.
Negotiate a start date that accounts for LCA processing
DOL targets seven business days for standard LCA certification, but delays occur. Build at least three weeks between your offer acceptance and your proposed start date so your employer isn't pressured into unrealistic timelines that create filing errors.

Find Technical Lead JobsTechnical Lead E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Technical Lead jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Technical Lead roles by employers who sponsor the E-3 visa for Australian professionals. Generic job boards don't surface sponsorship intent, so you'll waste time applying to roles where the hiring team has no process in place. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers already set up to file the LCA and support your consulate appointment.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Technical Lead role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Most Technical Lead positions qualify because they require a theoretical and practical application of highly specialised knowledge in a specific engineering or computer science field. The risk is when a job description lists duties that any degree could support. Ensure your offer letter specifies the required degree field, not just a generic bachelor's degree requirement, and that your day-to-day responsibilities involve applying that specialised knowledge directly.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Technical Lead roles?
For Australian nationals, the E-3 is strictly better than the H-1B for Technical Lead positions. There is no annual lottery, no cap to exhaust, and the 10,500-slot annual allocation has never been fully used. You can apply directly at a U.S. consulate in Australia after your employer files the LCA, rather than waiting for a lottery result in April and a potential October start date. Renewals are indefinite in two-year increments with continued employment.
What happens to my E-3 status if I change employers mid-year?
Your E-3 is tied to a specific employer and role, so changing jobs means starting the process from scratch with your new employer. They'll need to file a new LCA and you'll need a new E-3 visa or a change of status if you're already in the U.S. There's no USCIS portability provision equivalent to H-1B for E-3 holders, so time the transition carefully and ensure your new employer is ready to move quickly before your current visa expires.
