Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Civil Engineer
Get your credentials assessed before applying
Australian three-year engineering degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree, but having a credential evaluation letter ready removes doubt at the offer stage and speeds up LCA filing.
Target firms with active DOL LCA filings
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have filed LCAs for civil or structural engineering roles. Prior filings signal an existing process, reducing back-and-forth once you have an offer.
Confirm your role meets specialty occupation criteria
The E-3 visa requires the position to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. If the job listing says a degree is preferred rather than required, the role may not qualify, so clarify the requirement in writing before your employer files.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA step
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your visa appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so your employer isn't navigating the FLAG portal and prevailing wage rules alone.
Ask your employer about PE licensure requirements early
Some U.S. civil engineering roles require a Professional Engineer license for certain responsibilities. If your role is PE-dependent, confirm with your employer which tasks require licensure and whether you'll operate under a licensed engineer while you apply.
Time your consulate appointment around project start dates
The LCA is tied to a specific worksite and start date. If your project start date shifts after the LCA is certified, notify your employer immediately, as material changes to the role may require a new filing before your appointment.
E-3 Visa Civil Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Civil Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter for Civil Engineer roles where employers have demonstrated E-3 or relevant visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never navigated the process. Roles are matched to Australian candidates, which removes the noise of listings aimed at H-1B visa or green card applicants.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Is the E-3 visa better than the H-1B for civil engineers?
For Australian civil engineers, the E-3 is almost always the stronger path. There's no annual lottery, no cap, and no registration fee to enter a random selection process. You can apply as soon as you have an offer and a certified LCA. H-1B applicants face a lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate and must wait until October 1 for status to begin.
Can I switch civil engineering employers on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but you need to restart the filing process with the new employer. Your E-3 status is tied to the specific employer and job listed on the LCA and visa. The new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to either apply at a consulate or, in some cases, change status within the U.S. before starting the new role.
Does my Australian civil engineering degree qualify for the E-3 specialty occupation requirement?
A Bachelor of Engineering in civil, structural, or a closely related discipline from an Australian university generally satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation standard. USCIS accepts three-year Australian bachelor's degrees as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for this purpose. Having a credential evaluation from a recognized assessment agency strengthens your file if a consular officer raises questions.
