Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Industrial Design Engineer
Align your portfolio with U.S. specialty occupation standards
Your portfolio needs to demonstrate degree-level design work, not just project outcomes. Consular officers assess whether the role requires a specific bachelor's degree, so frame each project around the engineering discipline it draws from.
Target manufacturers with in-house design teams
Companies running their own product development cycles, consumer electronics, medical devices, furniture, and automotive suppliers, file LCAs regularly and have HR processes familiar with professional visa sponsorship. Contract design studios often lack that infrastructure.
Confirm the job description requires a specific degree
E-3 visa eligibility hinges on specialty occupation status. If the listing says a degree is preferred rather than required, ask the hiring manager to revise the internal requisition before the LCA is filed. A vague requirement can sink the application at the consulate.
Get your LCA and visa paperwork handled end-to-end
The LCA must be DOL-certified before your consulate appointment, and errors in the job duties description are a common rejection trigger. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so nothing falls through between offer acceptance and your interview date.
Search specifically for E-3 sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Most job boards don't filter by visa type, so you waste time on roles where employers won't sponsor. Migrate Mate surfaces Industrial Design Engineer positions from employers with active E-3 and H-1B visa filing history, so your search starts with the right companies.
Treat your three-year Australian degree as fully equivalent
USCIS accepts three-year Australian bachelor's degrees in design or engineering as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes. You don't need a credential evaluation for the visa application, but bring your academic transcript to the consulate interview.
E-3 Visa Industrial Design Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Industrial Design Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search, it filters Industrial Design Engineer roles by employers who have a history of E-3 and professional visa sponsorship, so you're not cold-applying to companies that will decline at the offer stage. Focus on manufacturers and product companies with in-house design functions, as they're most likely to have the HR capacity to run the LCA process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Industrial Design Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in industrial design, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. The key test is whether the degree requirement is specific and necessary, not just preferred. Generic product designer roles that accept any degree background can fail the specialty occupation assessment at the consulate, so the job description wording matters.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Industrial Design Engineer roles?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian nationals and has a 10,500-slot annual allocation that has never been fully used, so there's no lottery and no random selection risk. The H-1B runs an annual lottery with a roughly one-in-four selection rate for most applicants. For an Australian industrial designer, the E-3 is a direct path from offer to consulate appointment, while the H-1B involves waiting on lottery results before any filing can proceed.
Can I switch employers after getting an E-3 as an Industrial Design Engineer?
Yes, but each employer change requires a new LCA and a new visa stamp or change of status. There's no portability provision equivalent to the H-1B's AC21 rule, so you can't start work for a new employer on the strength of a pending petition alone. Plan for a processing window of several weeks between accepting a new offer and your start date to allow the DOL to certify the new LCA.
