Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Maintenance Engineer
Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
U.S. hiring managers may not recognize Australian engineering qualifications. Get your degree assessed by a credential evaluation service so your application clearly shows equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's degree before you apply.
Target industries with documented E-3 filing history
Manufacturing, utilities, aerospace, and facilities management consistently file LCAs for Maintenance Engineer roles. Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway to confirm which employers have recently certified LCAs for this occupation before investing time in applications.
Clarify the specialty occupation requirement early
Not every maintenance role qualifies for E-3 visa. If a job posting lists a bachelor's degree as preferred rather than required, the role may not meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard. Confirm the degree requirement is mandatory before pursuing sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your paperwork
Once you have an offer, your employer must file a certified LCA with the DOL before your visa application proceeds. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so filing errors don't delay your consulate appointment.
Negotiate who bears the filing costs in your offer
DOL rules prohibit passing certain E-3 filing costs to the employee. Confirm with your employer during the offer stage which fees they'll cover so there are no surprises after you accept and the process begins.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at your consulate interview
E-3 is a nonimmigrant visa, so consular officers assess whether you intend to return to Australia. Have a clear, honest answer about your ties to Australia ready, particularly if you're relocating with a family, which can prompt additional questions.
E-3 Visa Maintenance Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Maintenance Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals seeking U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. It surfaces Maintenance Engineer positions at employers with a history of sponsoring work visas, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never navigated the E-3 process before.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Maintenance Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. USCIS requires that the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific discipline, such as mechanical or electrical engineering. Roles that accept any degree, or where the degree is listed as preferred rather than required, may not qualify. Review the job description carefully and confirm the requirement is mandatory before pursuing an E-3 application.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Maintenance Engineer roles?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so your application is processed on its own timeline rather than waiting for a random selection result. H-1B visa has an 85,000-slot annual cap and a lottery that rejects the majority of registrations in oversubscribed years. For Australian Maintenance Engineers, the E-3 is a far more predictable path to a U.S. role.
Can I change employers or move to a different site on an E-3?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S. if you travel internationally. Changing employers doesn't restart a clock, but it does require the full LCA and visa process to be completed again. Plan the timing carefully around any international travel.
