Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in Production Machinist
Verify your credentials translate correctly
A three-year Australian trade or engineering degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree for E-3 visa purposes. Get a credential evaluation from a USCIS-recognized agency before you apply, so employers don't raise equivalency objections mid-process.
Target manufacturers already filing LCAs
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for employers with active Labor Condition Applications in machining or precision manufacturing. These companies already understand the E-3 sponsorship process and won't need convincing on how it works.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find Production Machinist roles from employers with active E-3 sponsorship history. Filtering by visa type saves you from applying to companies unfamiliar with Australian work authorization, which cuts down on wasted applications.
Clarify specialty occupation status upfront
Not every machinist role qualifies as a specialty occupation under E-3 rules. Roles requiring CNC programming expertise, CAD/CAM knowledge, or a specific engineering discipline are stronger candidates. Confirm the job description references a degree requirement before accepting an offer.
Ask your employer to file the LCA early
DOL certifies most LCAs within seven business days, but delays happen. Ask your employer to submit the LCA to DOL's FLAG system as soon as you accept the offer, so certification doesn't hold up your consulate appointment booking.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Once your employer agrees to sponsor you, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This avoids the common mistake of filing LCA wage levels inconsistently with the DS-160 and consulate documents.
E-3 Visa Production Machinist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Production Machinist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Production Machinist roles with E-3 sponsorship, as it filters specifically for employers familiar with Australian work authorization. Beyond that, target manufacturers in aerospace, automotive, and defense sectors, which regularly hire machinists with specialized technical qualifications and are experienced with work visa processes.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Production Machinist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
It depends on what the role actually requires. A machinist position that demands a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing technology, or a closely related field will qualify. Roles that list a degree as preferred rather than required can be harder to support. CNC programming, precision metrology, or CAD/CAM responsibilities strengthen the specialty occupation case considerably.
Is the E-3 visa easier to get than an H-1B for a Production Machinist role?
For Australian nationals, yes. The E-3 has an annual cap of 10,500 visas that has never been fully used, so there's no lottery. H-1B visa requires registration in a random selection process with no guarantee of a slot. Both require a specialty occupation and an employer sponsor, but E-3 applicants go directly to a consulate appointment rather than waiting months for USCIS petition adjudication.
What happens to my E-3 status if my machinist role changes significantly or I switch employers?
If your employer changes your role materially, such as moving you from CNC operation to a general production floor position, the original E-3 may no longer cover the work. Switching employers requires a new LCA and new visa stamp before you start. You can remain in E-3 status while transitioning, but don't begin work for the new employer until the new LCA is certified and your visa reflects the new position.
