E-3 Visa System Safety Engineer Jobs
System Safety Engineer roles in defense, aerospace, and transportation qualify as E-3 visa specialty occupations, making them strong candidates for visa sponsorship. Australian engineers with degrees in systems, mechanical, or aerospace engineering can apply directly at a U.S. consulate without entering an H-1B lottery, with two-year renewable status and no annual cap.

- Work closely with diverse teams of engineers to derive functional and safety requirements from use cases and driving modes on the left side of the V-Model, and to integrate and validate requirements on the right.
- Contribute to architecture decomposition and architecture validation, and will teach and mentor the development teams in requirements process, work flow and good requirements composition practices.
- We will count on you to guide teams in system safety engineering methodologies for development and verification.
- Apply your skills to help teams with requirements traceability, verification methodologies for safety, manage conflicting and changing requirements, and establish and manage projects in JAMA.
- We will look to you to collaborate with other teams within NVIDIA on V-Model process improvements, and to support alignment to customer requirement management processes.
- Applying MBSE development methods to safety and security functions.
What we need to see:
- BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of proven industry experience.
- We are looking for technically strong engineers with a hands-on approach to systems engineering, candidates who enjoy teaching and helping teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and engineers who thrive working in teams and across multiple domains.
- Bring a keen eye reviewing existing processes and finding gaps to suggest improvements.
- We seek engineers who bring experience in process definition, improvement, implementation, and roll-out.
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
We enjoy seeing strong backgrounds in these areas:
- Proven hands-on experience with state-of-the-art systems engineering methodologies – such as requirements management, peer review processes, configuration management, requirements management in an agile development environment, risk management, requirements verification and traceability, validation and verification, and architectural decomposition
- Success applying the V-Model to complex engineering projects, ideally in all stages of the SW development life cycle
- Hands-on experience in ADAS or autonomous vehicle systems as well as practical experience in applying Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
- System safety methodologies & practices (FMEA, FTA, STPA, CPA)
- Safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508, ISO 21448, ISO 8800)

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a System Safety Engineer
Frame your credentials for U.S. specialty occupation
Australian three-year engineering degrees meet the E-3 bachelor's equivalency standard, but your CV needs to map your qualifications to the specific safety standards domain the role requires, such as MIL-STD-882 or DO-178C, not just general engineering.
Target sectors with established LCA filing history
Defense contractors, avionics manufacturers, and rail transit authorities file LCAs for System Safety Engineers regularly. Focusing your search on employers already familiar with DOL's prevailing wage process shortens the sponsorship conversation significantly.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your LCA
The LCA must be DOL-certified before your consulate appointment, and errors in the wage level classification for safety roles can trigger delays. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the LCA submission and consulate paperwork end-to-end.
Address dual-intent early in offer negotiations
The E-3 is a nonimmigrant visa, so consular officers assess ties to Australia. If your employer later sponsors a green card, that's a separate process. Clarifying this upfront prevents misaligned expectations on both sides during offer discussions.
Verify security clearance eligibility before accepting offers
Many System Safety Engineer roles at defense primes require a U.S. security clearance, which Australian nationals on E-3 status can obtain through a reciprocal arrangement, but the sponsoring employer must initiate the process. Confirm this before signing.
Get your employer's LCA wage level right from the start
DOL assigns System Safety Engineers to wage levels based on supervision, complexity, and judgment. A misclassified wage level on the LCA is a common filing error that USCIS flags during status extensions, so audit the posted wage against OEWS data before submission.
E-3 Visa System Safety Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find System Safety Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. It filters opportunities by employers with active visa filing history in engineering and defense sectors, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never navigated the E-3 process before.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a System Safety Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. System Safety Engineers require at minimum a bachelor's degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation definition. Roles grounded in formal safety methodologies like MIL-STD-882 or ARP4761 reinforce this classification. Ensure your job offer letter specifies the degree requirement explicitly.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for System Safety Engineers?
The E-3 has a 10,500 annual allocation that has never been fully used, so there's no lottery and no random selection. H-1B registrations for the same roles face a lottery with roughly one-in-four odds in recent years. For Australian engineers, the E-3 also allows consulate processing with appointments typically available within weeks, rather than waiting for a USCIS approval cycle.
Can I change employers while on an E-3 as a System Safety Engineer?
Yes, but you can't transfer the visa the way an H-1B allows portability after 180 days. Each new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before starting work, which typically means a consulate appointment in Australia or at a third-country post. Plan for a gap between roles if your current visa stamp expires.
