Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
Australian three-year engineering degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year bachelor's degrees for E-3 purposes. Pair your academic transcripts with a credential evaluation letter to pre-empt any employer concerns during the offer stage.
Target industries with established LCA filing history
Oil and gas, utilities, advanced manufacturing, and defense contractors routinely file Labor Condition Applications for control systems roles. These employers already understand the E-3 process, which shortens the negotiation and reduces back-and-forth over sponsorship feasibility.
Search for E-3 sponsorship jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters roles by E-3 sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which employers will engage. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you have an offer confirmed.
Clarify your PLC and SCADA specializations upfront
Employers filing an LCA need to name a specific role with a defined specialty occupation. Specifying your platform expertise, such as Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell ControlLogix, or Ignition SCADA, strengthens the specialty occupation case and reduces DOL scrutiny.
Negotiate employer-paid filing fees before signing
The LCA filing with DOL is free, but employers often pay for legal support and consular preparation. Raise this during the offer stage, not after you've signed, so fee responsibilities are documented in your offer letter before any government filings begin.
Time your consulate appointment around project start dates
Australian consulates in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth process E-3 applications, with appointment availability varying by location and season. Build at least four to six weeks of buffer between your confirmed offer date and your intended start date to account for scheduling delays.
E-3 Visa Control Systems Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Control Systems Engineer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Control Systems Engineer roles filtered by E-3 sponsorship history. Many employers in automation, utilities, and industrial manufacturing sponsor E-3 visas regularly but don't advertise it in job postings. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active sponsorship activity, saving you from cold outreach to companies unfamiliar with the process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Control Systems Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as electrical engineering, control systems engineering, or mechatronics. Roles requiring only general technical experience or where any engineering degree would qualify may face more DOL scrutiny during LCA review. The stronger your degree-to-role alignment, the cleaner the specialty occupation case.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Control Systems Engineers?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been exhausted, so there is no lottery and no random selection. H-1B visa registration is entered into a lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate in recent years. For an Australian control systems engineer, the E-3 is a direct path that doesn't depend on chance.
Can I change employers or projects while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp or a change of status filing. Your E-3 is tied to the specific employer and role on your approved LCA. If you're moving between project sites under the same employer, confirm whether the primary worksite change requires an LCA amendment before you relocate.
