Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Roadway Engineer
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
Australian three-year civil engineering degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree, but some employers ask for a formal credential evaluation. Request one from a NACES-approved evaluator before your first interview to avoid delays.
Target state DOT contractors and engineering consultancies
State departments of transportation rely heavily on private consultants for roadway design and project delivery. Firms holding state DOT contracts file LCAs regularly and are familiar with E-3 visa sponsorship, making them far more receptive than general construction employers.
Use Migrate Mate to find and filter sponsoring employers
Use Migrate Mate to search for Roadway Engineer roles where employers have active E-3 or H-1B visa filing history. Filtering by sponsorship track record saves you from spending weeks pursuing firms that have never navigated the process.
Confirm the job description references a required degree
The E-3 specialty occupation requirement means your offer letter and job description must state that a bachelor's degree in a specific engineering field is required, not merely preferred. Ask HR to update the language before the LCA is filed with the DOL.
Understand the LCA filing timeline before you resign
The DOL typically certifies an LCA within seven business days, but your employer still needs time to prepare the application. Factor in two to three weeks between a signed offer and your visa interview date so you're not caught without authorisation.
Hand off the paperwork to a dedicated filing service
E-3 applications require a certified LCA, DS-160, consulate preparation, and supporting documentation. Using Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork reduces errors and keeps the process on track from offer acceptance to consulate appointment.
E-3 Visa Roadway Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Roadway Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship history. You can filter Roadway Engineer positions by employers who have previously filed LCAs or H-1B petitions, which is the clearest signal that a firm understands and is willing to sponsor the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Roadway Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. Roadway engineering falls within civil and transportation engineering, which requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific technical discipline. USCIS recognises this as a specialty occupation under the E-3 category. Your job offer must clearly state that the degree is required, not just preferred, to satisfy the specialty occupation definition at the consulate.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Roadway Engineer roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual numerical cap, so you can apply at any point in the year as soon as you have a job offer. The H-1B is subject to an annual lottery with a roughly 25 percent selection rate. For Australian engineers, the E-3 is a more direct and predictable path to working in the U.S. in the same specialty occupation roles.
Can I transfer my E-3 to a new Roadway Engineer employer mid-project?
Yes, but the new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S., unless you're changing employers while already in the country. There's no portability provision like the one available under AC21 for H-1B holders, so plan for a processing window of two to four weeks between roles.
