Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian engineering degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's for E-3 visa purposes. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator before interviews so hiring managers can confirm specialty occupation eligibility without delays.
Target employers with existing engineering visa history
Search DOL LCA disclosure data to identify companies that have previously certified Labor Condition Applications for engineering management roles. These employers already understand the filing process, which removes the educational burden from your offer negotiation.
Clarify the design manager's degree field with your employer
E-3 requires your degree to match the specific role. If your title spans mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering, work with your employer to align the job description to your exact degree field before the LCA is filed, a mismatch is the most common denial trigger for management-level engineering roles.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and consulate prep
The LCA must be certified by DOL before you can schedule your consulate appointment, and engineering design manager roles often require supporting documentation on prevailing wage. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, reducing employer friction and filing errors.
Negotiate sponsorship terms before signing the offer
Confirm in writing which fees the employer will cover and who manages the LCA filing. Unlike H-1B visa, there is no USCIS petition fee for E-3, but employers sometimes misunderstand the process. Getting this documented upfront prevents last-minute holdups after the offer is accepted.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at your consulate appointment
Engineering design manager roles attract scrutiny because long-term leadership positions can raise immigrant intent concerns. Bring documentation showing your Australian ties, employment contract duration, and renewal intent so the consular officer can confirm your E-3 nonimmigrant purpose without additional administrative processing.
E-3 Visa Engineering Design Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Engineering Design Manager jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 visa sponsorship. It filters opportunities by visa type so you're not wading through listings where sponsorship isn't on the table. Engineering design manager roles appear across infrastructure, manufacturing, tech, and construction sectors, and Migrate Mate surfaces employers already familiar with the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Engineering Design Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in engineering or a directly related technical field. The degree must correspond to the specific engineering discipline the role covers. A general management degree alone won't qualify, but an engineering degree paired with a management title does, as long as the job duties are substantively technical.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Engineering Design Manager roles?
Both visas require specialty occupation status, but the E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so you can apply any time of year and receive a decision within weeks rather than waiting for a single April registration window. The E-3 also has no USCIS petition fee, which reduces employer cost. The only limitation is that E-3 is exclusively available to Australian citizens.
Can I change employers or roles while on an E-3 as a design manager?
Yes, but you need a new E-3 for each employer. Your current E-3 is tied to the sponsoring company and the specific role listed on the LCA. If you change employers or your title shifts to a substantially different function, your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to attend a new consulate appointment before starting work.
