Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a CAD Technician
Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Your Australian bachelor's degree must align with the specific technical domain of the role. A degree in drafting or engineering technology supports most CAD Technician positions, but a general design degree may require a credential evaluation to confirm equivalency.
Target firms with active LCA filing histories
Engineering consultancies, AEC firms, and industrial manufacturers regularly file Labor Condition Applications for technical staff. Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure data to identify employers who have previously sponsored E-3 visa or H-1B visa workers in CAD or design roles.
Request an employer job description that specifies degree requirements
The E-3 specialty occupation test requires the role to normally demand a bachelor's degree. Ask your prospective employer to confirm in the offer letter that a degree in a specific field is required, not just preferred.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork
The LCA must be certified by the DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, including prevailing wage compliance for your specific SOC code and location.
Prepare your portfolio for the consulate interview
Consular officers assess whether your background genuinely supports the specialty occupation claim. Bring project samples, software certifications like AutoCAD or Revit credentials, and your employer's signed offer letter to demonstrate the technical nature of your work.
Understand how E-3 renewals work before accepting an offer
The E-3 is renewable indefinitely in two-year increments, but each renewal requires continued employment in a qualifying role. Confirm with your employer that they're willing to support renewals, not just the initial filing, before you accept.
E-3 Visa CAD Technician: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find CAD Technician jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals seeking E-3 sponsorship and lets you filter roles by visa type, job title, and industry. Most CAD Technician roles are listed in engineering, architecture, and manufacturing sectors. Standard job platforms don't filter by sponsorship willingness, so using a tool designed for E-3 searches saves significant time.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a CAD Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. If the role normally requires a bachelor's degree in drafting, engineering technology, or a closely related field, it qualifies. Roles described as requiring only vocational training or an associate degree may not meet the specialty occupation threshold, so reviewing the job description carefully before applying is essential.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for CAD Technicians?
The E-3 has a 10,500 annual allocation that has never been exhausted, meaning there's no lottery and no random selection. H-1B requires entering a lottery with roughly a 25 percent selection rate in recent years. For Australian CAD Technicians, the E-3 is a direct path: secure an offer, have the employer file an LCA with the DOL, and attend your consulate interview.
Can I switch CAD Technician employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA before you begin work with them. The E-3 is employer-specific, so you can't simply transfer the visa. If you're already in the U.S., you'll either need your new employer to file promptly or depart and complete a new consulate appointment in Australia before starting the new role.
