ABOUT THE TEAM
OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise team sits within the B2B Applications organization and is responsible for making ChatGPT work for businesses at scale. Our goal is to deliver a seamless experience where people can use the same product at home and at work, while meeting the requirements that only enterprises care about—security and admin controls, regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA/FINRA), and data / compute residency across geographies. The team’s roadmap spans three core workstreams: enterprise controls, user value & activation, and company-specific products (e.g., Company Knowledge).
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re hiring full stack engineers to build the product experiences that turn ChatGPT into an indispensable tool for teams—while ensuring the trust, controls, and performance enterprises require. This role is especially focused on the user benefit & activation track: designing collaboration experiences, onboarding and engagement loops, and product affordances that help employees discover and adopt advanced capabilities (including agents and custom GPT-style workflows).
In this role, you will:
- Build end-to-end features across frontend, backend-for-frontend, and service layers that improve how teams collaborate and share work in ChatGPT.
- Design activation and engagement systems (e.g., product hooks, discovery surfaces, and admin-to-user rollout flows) that drive adoption across different user cohorts inside an enterprise.
- Partner cross-functionally with engineers working on enterprise controls (security, permissions, compliance, residency) and company knowledge/search to ensure features ship with the right guardrails and enterprise readiness.
- Collaborate with adjacent teams (including API/agent efforts) to integrate agent experiences into the ChatGPT interface in ways that feel native, safe, and scalable for business use.
YOUR BACKGROUND MIGHT LOOK SOMETHING LIKE:
- 9+ years of professional engineering experience (excluding internships) in relevant roles at tech and product-driven companies
- Former founder, or early engineer at a startup who has built a product from scratch is a plus
- Proficiency with TypeScript, React, and other web technologies
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages (e.g., Python, Go, Rust, Typescript or similar) and distributed systems concepts
- Some experience with relational databases like Postgres/MySQL
- Care deeply about reliability, safety, and performance in production environments.
- Interest in AI/ML (direct experience not required)
- Proven ability to thrive in fast-growing, product-driven companies by effectively navigating loosely defined tasks and managing competing priorities or deadlines.
TITLE NOTE:
At OpenAI, research and engineering hires share the internal title Member of Technical Staff. We use Senior Staff externally to signal the depth of experience, ownership, and technical leadership expected for this role.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or other applicable legally protected characteristic.
Background checks for applicants will be administered in accordance with applicable law, and qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered for employment consistent with those laws, including the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers, and the California Fair Chance Act, for US-based candidates. For unincorporated Los Angeles County workers: we reasonably believe that criminal history may have a direct, adverse and negative relationship with the following job duties, potentially resulting in the withdrawal of a conditional offer of employment: protect computer hardware entrusted to you from theft, loss or damage; return all computer hardware in your possession (including the data contained therein) upon termination of employment or end of assignment; and maintain the confidentiality of proprietary, confidential, and non-public information. In addition, job duties require access to secure and protected information technology systems and related data security obligations.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Product Engineer
Align your credentials to the role
U.S. consular officers assess whether your degree field directly supports the Product Engineer title. A degree in mechanical, software, or systems engineering maps cleanly. An unrelated degree requires substantial work-experience documentation to compensate, so prepare a detailed resume and credential evaluation before applying.
Search for active E-3 sponsors on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to identify employers with a history of sponsoring Australian engineers and to manage your LCA and visa paperwork from offer through consulate appointment, without needing a separate immigration attorney.
Target product teams at mid-sized tech companies
Product Engineer roles at companies between 200 and 2,000 employees often move faster on E-3 sponsorship than large enterprises with rigid HR pipelines. These teams typically have direct hiring authority and fewer internal legal review layers, so your offer-to-LCA timeline shortens significantly.
Clarify the specialty occupation standard early
The E-3 requires your role to meet the DOL's specialty occupation definition, meaning a bachelor's degree in a specific field must be a genuine requirement, not a preference. Ask the hiring manager whether the job description states 'required' rather than 'preferred' before submitting your application.
Negotiate LCA filing into your offer timeline
Your employer must file and receive a certified LCA from the DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment. DOL certification typically takes seven business days. Build this into your start-date negotiation so neither side is surprised by the two-to-three week lead time before your visa interview.
Prepare a nonimmigrant intent answer for your interview
E-3 officers can probe your long-term plans because the visa does not confer dual intent. Have a clear, truthful explanation of your Australian ties or professional intentions ready. Vague answers about indefinite U.S. residency raise flags that delay or derail an otherwise clean application.

Find Product Engineer JobsProduct Engineer E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Product Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Product Engineer roles where employers are prepared to sponsor the E-3 visa. Standard job platforms don't filter by visa type, so you often can't tell from a listing whether a company will support an E-3. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with active sponsorship history, saving you the back-and-forth of asking recruiters one by one.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Product Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, in most cases. Product Engineer positions typically require a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, which satisfies the DOL specialty occupation standard. The key is that the job description must list the degree as a requirement, not a preference. If the posting says 'bachelor's preferred,' the role may not qualify and you should ask the employer to revise the language before the LCA is filed.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Product Engineer roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens, but it has no annual lottery and no cap on how many are issued each year. The H-1B selection rate has been around 25% in recent years, meaning most applicants don't get selected even if fully qualified. For an Australian Product Engineer, the E-3 is a direct path to U.S. employment without the random selection risk that comes with H-1B registration.
Can I switch Product Engineer employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL before you start. There is no portability rule like the one that exists for H-1B holders under AC21. If you're between jobs, your E-3 status is tied to your employer, so a gap in employment means your authorised stay is technically no longer supported. Most E-3 holders manage transitions by timing their new LCA certification before their last day with the current employer.
