E-3 Visa Traffic Engineer Jobs
Traffic Engineer roles qualify for E-3 visa sponsorship because the position requires a bachelor's degree in civil or transportation engineering, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Australian engineers can bypass the H-1B lottery entirely, with no annual cap and indefinite two-year renewals tied to each qualifying job offer.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Traffic Engineer
Align your credentials with U.S. licensing expectations
An Australian bachelor's in civil or transportation engineering satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation degree requirement, but employers often ask whether you're working toward a Professional Engineer license. Document your academic transcripts and any Engineers Australia membership before applying.
Target public infrastructure and DOT-contracted employers
State departments of transportation and firms holding federal highway contracts file LCAs regularly and understand specialty occupation rules for engineering roles. These employers are more likely to have established E-3 sponsorship workflows than smaller private consultancies.
Confirm the job description requires your specific degree field
E-3 approval depends on the role requiring a degree in a directly related field. A posting that says 'engineering or related field' is weaker than one specifying civil or transportation engineering. Ask the hiring manager to tighten the job description before your employer files the LCA with DOL.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and consulate paperwork
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment can proceed. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so nothing stalls between the employer's signature and your visa stamp.
Time your application around consulate appointment availability
E-3 visas are processed at Australian consulates in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. Wait times vary significantly by location and season. Request your employer's LCA as soon as your offer is finalised so you can book the earliest available appointment slot without delay.
Prepare for prevailing wage questions before your offer letter is drafted
DOL's prevailing wage determination ties your offered salary to the geographic area and job level. If the employer's initial offer falls below the DOL wage level for your role and location, the LCA will not certify. Raise this with HR before the offer is formalised.

Find Traffic Engineer JobsTraffic Engineer E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Traffic Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 visa sponsorship roles in the U.S. You can filter by job title, location, and sponsorship status to find Traffic Engineer positions at employers who are already set up to file an LCA and support the E-3 process, saving you from cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the visa.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Traffic Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Traffic engineering requires at least a bachelor's degree in civil or transportation engineering, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation definition. The role involves technical analysis of traffic flow, signal design, and road safety systems that cannot be performed without that specific disciplinary background. Your employer's job description should reflect this degree requirement explicitly when filing the LCA with DOL.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Traffic Engineer roles?
The E-3 has a 10,500-visa annual allocation that has never been exhausted, so there is no lottery and no random selection. H-1B registrations for the same fiscal year are capped at 85,000 with a lottery that rejects the majority of applicants. For Australian Traffic Engineers, the E-3 means a predictable, employer-driven process where approval depends on your qualifications and the job offer, not chance.
Can I change Traffic Engineer employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if you travel internationally before starting the new role. If you remain inside the U.S., you can begin working for the new employer once the LCA is certified and a new visa petition is in process, though timing between roles requires careful coordination to avoid a status gap.
