Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Electrical Project Engineer
Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian electrical engineering degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 specialty occupation purposes. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before you start applying so you're ready when employers ask.
Target employers with active DOL LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify engineering firms and utilities that have filed LCAs for electrical project roles. Employers already familiar with the LCA process move faster through sponsorship than those encountering it for the first time.
Confirm your role clears the specialty occupation bar
Not every Electrical Project Engineer title qualifies automatically. Roles requiring only general engineering supervision, with no degree-specific requirement in the job posting, can fail USCIS review. Make sure your offer letter specifies that a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required, not just preferred.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and consulate prep
Your employer files the LCA with DOL, but coordinating that with your DS-160, MRV fee, and consulate appointment takes careful sequencing. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, reducing back-and-forth with your employer's HR team.
Ask employers about E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Most large engineering firms and federal contractors are already E-Verify enrolled, which speeds up your I-9 process after arrival. If a smaller employer isn't enrolled, factor that into your timeline, since enrollment adds a step before your first day.
Start your consulate appointment search before your offer finalizes
Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth each have different E-3 appointment availability, and wait times shift throughout the year. Check appointment calendars at all three consulates as soon as you're close to an offer, so you can negotiate a start date your employer can realistically work around.
E-3 Visa Electrical Project Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Electrical Project Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Electrical Project Engineer roles at employers with a history of sponsoring Australian professionals on the E-3 visa, filtering out postings where sponsorship is unlikely. That saves you from investing time in applications at firms that haven't sponsored before or don't understand the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Electrical Project Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Electrical Project Engineer roles qualify when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a directly related field. The key is that the degree requirement must be genuine and specific. Generalist engineering manager roles, or postings that list a degree as preferred rather than required, can face USCIS scrutiny. Your offer letter should clearly state the educational requirement.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Electrical Project Engineers?
The E-3 has two major advantages over H-1B visa for Australian engineers: there's no annual lottery, and the annual allocation of 10,500 visas has never been fully used. You can apply year-round whenever you have a qualifying job offer. H-1B registrations are capped at 85,000 per year and selected by lottery, meaning qualified engineers are often rejected on probability alone.
Can I switch employers while on an E-3 visa as an Electrical Project Engineer?
Yes, but your E-3 status is employer-specific. When you change jobs, your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp at a consulate before starting. You can work for the new employer after the LCA is certified and your new visa is issued, so plan the transition timeline with at least four to six weeks of lead time.
