Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Field Application Scientist
Frame your CV for U.S. scientific hiring
Reformat your Australian CV as a U.S.-style resume: one to two pages, reverse-chronological, with instrument platforms and application domains listed explicitly. Hiring managers at reagent and instrument companies screen for hands-on experience with their specific product lines.
Target biotech and diagnostics instrument companies
Field Application Scientist roles cluster around life-science instrument manufacturers and molecular diagnostics companies. Focus your search on employers with dedicated applications or commercial science teams, as these divisions routinely file E-3 LCAs for Australian candidates.
Search E-3 sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Field Application Scientist openings by employers with active E-3 sponsorship history. This saves weeks of manual research and puts you in front of hiring managers who already understand the visa process.
Confirm your degree covers the specialty occupation
The E-3 requires a degree directly related to the role. A Bachelor of Science in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a closely aligned field satisfies this for most FAS positions. A generic science degree without field alignment can trigger an USCIS request for additional evidence.
Brief your hiring manager on the LCA timeline
Many U.S. employers are unfamiliar with the E-3's Labor Condition Application step. The DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days, which is far faster than the H-1B process. Raising this early prevents unnecessary delays after an offer is extended.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for paperwork
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This covers DOL submission, DS-160 preparation, and consulate appointment readiness so nothing falls through between offer and start date.

Find Field Application Scientist JobsField Application Scientist E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Field Application Scientist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Field Application Scientist roles where the employer already supports E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, so you can't tell which postings are open to Australian candidates. Migrate Mate surfaces roles with verified sponsorship history, saving you from applying to positions that will stall at the offer stage.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Field Application Scientist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, in the vast majority of cases. Field Application Scientists require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific scientific discipline, which meets the E-3 specialty occupation definition. Roles tied to genomics platforms, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, or clinical diagnostics have a strong qualification record. Where a role's job description is vague or lists a degree as preferred rather than required, USCIS may issue a Request for Evidence.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Field Application Scientist positions?
The E-3 is significantly more accessible for Australians. The H-1B has an annual cap of 85,000 slots and a lottery, meaning you could wait one to three years before selection. The E-3 has a separate 10,500 annual allocation that has never been fully used, so there's no lottery and no wait. Employers also face far less administrative burden with E-3 filings, which makes them more willing to sponsor Australian candidates over other nationalities.
Can I start an E-3 application before relocating to the U.S.?
Yes, and that's the standard path for Australian-based applicants. Once your employer files the LCA with the DOL and it's certified, you apply for the E-3 visa stamp at a U.S. consulate in Australia. Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth all process E-3 applications. Your visa is issued before you travel, so you arrive in the U.S. already authorized to work in the Field Application Scientist role.
