Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Laboratory
Verify your credential equivalency early
Australian bachelor's degrees in biochemistry, chemistry, or life sciences are accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 specialty occupation purposes. Get a credential evaluation letter from a NACES-approved evaluator before you start applying, some employers request it upfront.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure database for certified LCAs in laboratory and life sciences job titles. Employers who have filed LCAs before already understand the process, which cuts weeks off the sponsorship timeline for you.
Flag your visa status before the offer stage
Disclose your E-3 requirement when you reach the hiring manager stage, not after an offer is made. Laboratory roles in clinical and pharmaceutical settings often involve compliance teams who need lead time to prepare the LCA before you can schedule your consulate appointment.
Clarify specialty occupation fit for your specific role
Not every laboratory position qualifies as a specialty occupation under E-3 rules. Roles requiring a degree in a specific scientific field, analytical chemistry, molecular biology, clinical laboratory science, qualify. General lab technician roles without a degree requirement may not.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA
The LCA must be certified by the DOL before your consulate appointment, and errors in the prevailing wage or job classification fields are common. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the process doesn't stall between offer and appointment.
Plan your consulate appointment around lab start dates
Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth consulates all process E-3 applications, but wait times differ. Book your appointment as soon as your employer's LCA is certified, laboratory employers often have project start dates tied to grant cycles or clinical trial schedules that can't easily shift.

Find Laboratory JobsLaboratory E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find laboratory jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, it surfaces laboratory and life sciences roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship for Australian nationals. Because the E-3 has no lottery and a straightforward employer filing process, many research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and clinical labs are willing to sponsor when the right candidate applies.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a laboratory role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on the specific role and the degree requirement attached to it. Research scientist, analytical chemist, clinical laboratory scientist, and quality control chemist positions typically qualify because they require a bachelor's degree in a specific scientific discipline. Roles where any science degree, or no degree, suffices are less likely to meet the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies to E-3 petitions.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for laboratory professionals?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap, which means your employer can file at any point in the year and you can start once the LCA is certified and your consulate appointment is complete. The H-1B has an annual lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate, so even a qualified candidate with a strong offer can wait years. For Australian laboratory professionals, the E-3 is a materially faster path to U.S. employment.
What does the employer actually have to do to sponsor me on an E-3 for a lab role?
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, which certifies that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your role and location. Once the LCA is certified, typically within seven business days, you use it to apply for the E-3 visa at an Australian consulate. The employer does not file anything with USCIS for a consular E-3, which is one reason the process is faster than H-1B sponsorship.
