Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Maintenance Mechanic
Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
A Certificate IV or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical) can satisfy the E-3 visa specialty occupation requirement, but you'll need a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator to confirm U.S. degree equivalency before any employer files your LCA.
Target manufacturers with established E-3 hiring pipelines
Search DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have filed LCAs for Maintenance Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic roles. Facilities with repeat E-3 filings already understand the process and won't balk at the paperwork.
Clarify your role scope during the offer stage
E-3 requires a specialty occupation, so make sure your job description explicitly ties mechanical duties to a specific technical discipline. A generic 'general maintenance' title without a degree requirement listed can get your LCA challenged during DOL review.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to streamline your LCA
Once you have a written offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. The LCA must be certified by DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment, so starting this step early protects your start date.
Prepare your consulate documents before your interview
Gather your certified LCA, DS-160 confirmation, offer letter, credential evaluation, and proof of Australian citizenship before scheduling at Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth. Missing any single document at the window means a delayed approval, not a second chance on the day.
Confirm your employer's E-Verify status before accepting an offer
Some U.S. manufacturers and federal contractors are required to use E-Verify for employment eligibility. If your employer is subject to this, confirm enrollment before your consulate appointment so your first day isn't delayed by a compliance gap.
E-3 Visa Maintenance Mechanic: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Maintenance Mechanic jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Maintenance Mechanic roles where employers have a documented history of E-3 or similar specialty visa filings, so you're not cold-applying to employers who've never navigated the process. Filter by role, location, and sponsorship status to find positions most likely to move forward.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Maintenance Mechanic role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
It depends on how the role is structured. The E-3 requires the position to normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. A Maintenance Mechanic role focused on CNC systems, HVAC engineering, or industrial automation is more likely to qualify than a general facilities maintenance position. Your job offer and the LCA filing must clearly reflect the degree requirement.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Maintenance Mechanic roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery, so your employer can file at any time and you can start as soon as your visa is approved. The H-1B visa is capped at 85,000 per year and requires selection in a lottery held once annually. For Australian mechanics, the E-3 is a far more predictable path to a U.S. role, with the same specialty occupation standard but none of the lottery risk.
Can I switch Maintenance Mechanic employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but each new employer must file a new LCA and you'll need to apply for a new E-3 visa at a U.S. consulate in Australia before starting with them. There's no transfer mechanism like the H-1B portability rule. Plan for a gap of several weeks between roles to allow for LCA certification and consulate processing.
