Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a News Anchor
Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
Your Australian journalism degree is recognised as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree for E-3 purposes. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved body before interviews so hiring managers can confirm specialty occupation eligibility without delay.
Target newsrooms with active visa filing history
Network television affiliates, public broadcasters, and cable news operations in major markets have established HR processes for foreign nationals. Regional stations often lack that infrastructure, so focus your search on mid-to-large market newsrooms where sponsorship is already an understood workflow.
Flag E-3 advantages early in salary negotiations
Many U.S. news directors conflate E-3 with H-1B and assume a lottery risk. Clarify upfront that the E-3 has no lottery, no annual cap, and that your employer's main obligation is filing the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your consulate appointment.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to streamline your LCA
The LCA must be certified by DOL before you can attend your consulate interview. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end, so your start date isn't delayed by an employer unfamiliar with the filing process.
Prepare a broadcast reel that meets U.S. market standards
U.S. news directors expect a two-minute demo reel formatted for the specific market tier you're targeting. Anchoring style, teleprompter delivery, and on-camera presentation norms differ from Australian broadcast conventions, so edit your reel to reflect local expectations before applying.
Understand how E-3 status affects freelance and contract work
E-3 status is employer-specific, so you can't take freelance shifts at a second station without a separate LCA filed by that employer. Negotiate your primary contract to cover all anticipated duties before your visa is issued to avoid unauthorised work complications.

Find News Anchor JobsNews Anchor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find News Anchor jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search News Anchor roles filtered by E-3 visa sponsorship, so you're only seeing employers who already understand the process. Because E-3 sponsorship requires an employer to file a Labor Condition Application, targeting newsrooms with established visa workflows significantly reduces the risk of an offer falling through at the paperwork stage.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a News Anchor role actually qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or broadcasting as a standard entry requirement for that specific role. A general-assignment reporting job that accepts any degree field may not meet the specialty occupation threshold, so reviewing the job description's education requirement before applying is essential.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian journalists seeking U.S. anchor roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual numerical cap, which means an Australian anchor can receive E-3 sponsorship at any time of year without waiting for an October start date. H-1B petitions are subject to an annual lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate, making the E-3 a structurally more reliable path for Australian nationals in broadcast journalism.
Can I switch news stations while on an E-3 visa?
You can change employers, but your new station must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with DOL and you'll need to obtain a new E-3 visa stamp at a U.S. consulate before starting work in most cases. There's no formal portability provision equivalent to H-1B portability, so plan for a gap between stations or negotiate your start date accordingly.
