Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Research Manager
Align your degree field to the role
E-3 requires your qualification to match the specialty occupation. A Research Manager role in public health needs a degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field, not a general business degree, to satisfy DOL's specialty occupation standard.
Target employers with active research divisions
Prioritise organisations with dedicated research functions, universities, think tanks, pharmaceutical companies, and federal contractors. These employers already understand LCA filing obligations and are far less likely to withdraw an offer when E-3 paperwork requirements become clear.
Request a prevailing wage level that fits your experience
Your employer files the LCA at a DOL-defined wage level. Research Managers with five or more years of experience should confirm the employer is filing at Level III or IV, not Level I, since the wage level affects both your offer and the LCA's credibility with the consulate.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the end-to-end process
Once you have an offer, the LCA and consulate paperwork must be sequenced correctly. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles LCA certification through the DOL FLAG system, the DS-160, and your consulate preparation so no step is missed before your interview.
Find Research Manager roles with E-3 sponsorship on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for E-3-eligible roles, so you're not sifting through postings from employers who only sponsor H-1B. Search by job title and location to surface Research Manager positions from employers already open to Australian candidates.
Prepare an equivalency assessment if your degree is a three-year Australian bachelor's
USCIS accepts Australian three-year bachelor's degrees as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees, but the consular officer needs documentation supporting that equivalency. A credential evaluation from a NACES-member organisation gives you a formal letter to include in your visa packet.

Find Research Manager JobsResearch Manager E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Research Manager jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended starting point, it lists Research Manager roles from employers open to E-3 sponsorship specifically, so you're not cold-applying to companies that only process H-1B petitions. Because E-3 requires no lottery and involves a straightforward LCA filing, many research-focused employers who hesitate on H-1B are open to E-3 candidates when the process is explained clearly.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Research Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for E-3 purposes?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as social sciences, public health, economics, or psychology. The key is that the degree requirement must be tied to the job's duties, not just listed as a preference. If the role would accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field, it may not meet the specialty occupation standard DOL and USCIS apply.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Research Manager positions in the U.S.?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens, but it has two major advantages for Research Managers: no annual lottery and no cap that routinely fills. H-1B registrations are selected by random lottery, so even qualified candidates may wait years for a slot. E-3 applications can be filed year-round whenever an employer has an open role, which makes it far more practical for research organisations trying to hire on a defined project timeline.
Can I switch Research Manager employers once I'm in the U.S. on an E-3?
Yes, but you cannot start work for a new employer until they have a certified LCA and you have a new E-3 visa reflecting that employer. Unlike H-1B portability rules, there is no grace period that allows you to begin work under a new E-3 employer before the visa is issued. You'll need to go through consular processing again unless you are changing roles within the same employer entity.
