Align your credentials to specialty occupation
Your Australian bachelor's degree must correspond directly to the IT support role. If your degree is in a different field, document three years of relevant work experience per missing year of formal education to meet the specialty occupation threshold.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for employers who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for IT support roles. A company with existing LCA filings already understands the E-3 visa process and won't treat your sponsorship request as a first-time complication.
Clarify the specialty occupation case before applying
Senior IT Support Specialist job postings often list a degree as preferred rather than required. Confirm with the hiring manager before your first interview that the role's internal job requirements mandate a bachelor's degree, since USCIS will scrutinize that distinction during adjudication.
Request the LCA be filed before your interview
The employer must obtain a certified LCA from DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment. Ask your recruiter to initiate the LCA at offer acceptance, not after background checks clear, to avoid delays that push your start date back by weeks.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for end-to-end preparation
Once you have a job offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork from certification through consulate preparation. This is especially useful if your employer's HR team has no prior E-3 experience.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at the consulate
Australian consulates can ask about long-term intentions even though the E-3 is technically dual-intent neutral. Bring documentation of ties to Australia, such as property ownership or family, alongside your offer letter, certified LCA, and academic transcripts.
E-3 Visa Senior IT Support Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Senior IT Support Specialist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Senior IT Support Specialist roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Many companies posting these roles don't advertise visa support explicitly but will sponsor qualified Australian candidates. Filtering by E-3-compatible employers using Migrate Mate removes the guesswork from your job search.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Senior IT Support Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It qualifies when the employer's position description requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as information technology, computer science, or information systems. Generic postings that accept any degree, or list the degree as preferred rather than required, create adjudication risk. Ask the employer to confirm the educational requirement is a formal job prerequisite before you begin the sponsorship conversation.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for this role?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply any time of year and begin work within weeks of your consulate appointment. The H-1B visa runs on a once-per-year lottery with an October 1 start date regardless of when you applied. For Senior IT Support Specialists who already have a U.S. job offer, the E-3 is the faster and more predictable path.
Can I change employers after starting work on an E-3?
Yes, but you need a new LCA certified by DOL and a new visa issued for the new employer before you start that role. Unlike H-1B portability, the E-3 doesn't allow you to begin work with a new employer while a petition is pending. Plan for a gap of several weeks between offer acceptance and your consulate appointment for the new position.
