Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Cybersecurity Intern
Frame your degree for specialty occupation
Internship roles must qualify as specialty occupations for E-3 eligibility. Document that your cybersecurity or computer science degree directly maps to the intern's duties, not just a general IT function. A vague job description can sink an otherwise valid application.
Target employers with active security clearance programs
Federal contractors and defense-adjacent tech firms regularly sponsor E-3 interns because security talent is scarce. Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for certified LCAs in cybersecurity job titles to identify employers already familiar with the E-3 process.
Request a written specialty occupation confirmation
Ask your hiring contact to confirm in writing that the role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Without this documentation, consular officers may question whether the internship meets the E-3 specialty occupation standard at your visa interview.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service early
LCA certification from DOL must precede your consulate appointment, and errors in the prevailing wage category for intern-level roles are common. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork before a start date is locked in.
Clarify your internship duration against E-3 validity
E-3 visas are issued for up to two years, but most cybersecurity internships run three to six months. Confirm with your employer whether they'll support a full two-year petition or a shorter duration tied to the program, as this affects your I-94 and re-entry options.
Search for roles on Migrate Mate before cold outreach
Many internship postings don't advertise E-3 sponsorship openly. Migrate Mate filters roles by employers who have sponsored Australian candidates, so you can prioritize applications where visa support is already part of the hiring conversation.

Find Cybersecurity Intern JobsCybersecurity Intern E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find cybersecurity internships that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Most internship listings don't specify E-3 sponsorship directly, so filtering by employer history matters more than job title keywords. Migrate Mate surfaces cybersecurity intern roles from employers with documented E-3 sponsorship experience, which saves you from pursuing positions where visa support isn't actually available.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a cybersecurity internship qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It can, but the role's job description carries most of the weight. The position must require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like information security, computer science, or network engineering. Internships framed as general IT support or rotational programs often fail the specialty occupation test because no single degree field is required.
How does the E-3 compare to H-1B for Australian cybersecurity interns?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual numerical cap, so you can apply at any point in the year without waiting for an October start date. H-1B registration closes in March and cap-subject roles can't start until October 1 at the earliest. For a short-term cybersecurity internship, the E-3's year-round availability is a practical advantage H-1B can't match.
Can my cybersecurity internship employer sponsor me if they've never filed an E-3 before?
Yes, E-3 sponsorship doesn't require prior filing history. The employer needs to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying the prevailing wage and working conditions, then support your consulate application. Many first-time E-3 employers find the process straightforward once they understand it's a consular-based visa with no USCIS petition required for new applicants.
