E-3 Visa Senior Test Development Engineer Jobs
Senior Test Development Engineer roles in the U.S. require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field, which maps cleanly to E-3 visa specialty occupation requirements. Australian engineers in test and validation can secure E-3 sponsorship without competing in the H-1B lottery, with two-year renewable status tied to your employer.

Translate your credentials into U.S. equivalency
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 visa purposes, but confirm your transcripts reflect a major in electrical, computer, or systems engineering. Mismatched degree fields are a common LCA complication for test engineering roles.
Target employers with active hardware development pipelines
Companies building semiconductor, aerospace, medical device, or defense hardware file LCAs for test development engineers far more than software-only firms. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data by SOC code 17-2199 to identify employers already filing for roles matching yours.
Clarify the specialty occupation link in your job offer
The E-3 requires your role to theoretically and practically require a specialized degree. For test development, ask your employer to specify in the offer letter that the position requires a degree in engineering, not just a general bachelor's degree in any field.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and consulate prep
The LCA must be DOL-certified before your consulate appointment, and test engineering roles sometimes draw wage-level scrutiny. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so nothing delays your start date.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before signing your offer
Employers must complete Form I-9 verification for all E-3 workers. If your employer isn't enrolled in E-Verify, ask HR to confirm their I-9 compliance process before your start date, since gaps here can delay your onboarding even after visa approval.
Prepare for wage-level questions during consular review
USCIS and consular officers check that your offered wage meets DOL prevailing wage for your location and experience level. Senior test development engineers are typically classified at wage level III or IV, so verify your offer aligns before your appointment.
E-3 Visa Senior Test Development Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Senior Test Development Engineer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Senior Test Development Engineer roles by employers with active E-3 and LCA filing history. Most general job boards don't surface sponsorship status, so you can spend weeks applying to roles where the employer has never filed an E-3. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers already set up to sponsor Australian engineers.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Senior Test Development Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific engineering discipline such as electrical, computer, or systems engineering. The key is that the job description must reflect a theoretical and practical requirement for that degree, not just preference. Generic language like 'bachelor's preferred' can weaken an E-3 application, so the offer letter wording matters.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Senior Test Development Engineers?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so you can apply any time of year and start as soon as your visa is approved. H-1B registration opens once a year in March and selection is random. For Senior Test Development Engineers with a qualifying Australian degree and a U.S. job offer, the E-3 is a direct path that doesn't depend on luck.
Can I change employers on an E-3 while working as a Senior Test Development Engineer?
Yes, but your E-3 status is tied to your current employer, not to you. When you accept a new offer, your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need to apply for a new E-3 visa, usually at an Australian consulate. You can't transfer your existing E-3 the way some other visa holders can port their status.
