E-3 Visa Surveyor Jobs
Surveyor roles in land development, construction, and infrastructure qualify as E-3 specialty occupations when tied to a relevant bachelor's degree. Australian surveyors can secure E-3 visa sponsorship without competing in a lottery, making the path to U.S. employment more direct than most visa categories allow.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Surveyor
Verify your credentials translate correctly
A three-year Australian surveying degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's for E-3 purposes, but get a credential evaluation from a NACES-accredited service before applying. Employers need this documentation to file your LCA.
Target firms with active federal contracts
Federal and state infrastructure projects require licensed surveyors year-round, meaning those employers carry standing sponsorship processes. Search DOL's FLAG portal for LCA filings under SOC code 17-1022 to identify firms that have sponsored surveying roles before.
Find E-3 sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter surveyor roles by employers with verified E-3 sponsorship history. Searching without that filter wastes time on firms that won't engage on visa questions, especially in a field where many smaller surveying practices have no prior sponsorship experience.
Clarify your licensure status before the offer stage
Most U.S. states require a Professional Land Surveyor license to sign and seal surveys. You can work under a licensed surveyor's supervision on an E-3 while pursuing licensure, so address this proactively with employers rather than letting it stall the offer.
Let your employer know the LCA comes first
Before your visa application can proceed, your employer must file a certified LCA with DOL confirming your role meets prevailing wage requirements. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the employer's obligations are managed efficiently from the start.
Prepare for consulate questions about project continuity
Consular officers sometimes question E-3 applicants in project-based fields about employment stability. Bring documentation showing a firm offer letter, a defined role description, and evidence of ongoing project scope to demonstrate the position isn't temporary or speculative.

Find Surveyor JobsSurveyor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find surveyor jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search on Migrate Mate, which filters surveyor roles by employers with verified E-3 sponsorship history. Most general job boards don't distinguish between visa-willing and visa-experienced employers, and surveying firms without prior sponsorship history often can't move quickly through the LCA and consulate process. Targeting employers who've done it before reduces delays significantly.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a surveyor role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, surveying qualifies as a specialty occupation when your employer requires a bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a closely related field. The role must involve applying specialized theoretical knowledge, not just technical execution. If the job posting says a degree is preferred rather than required, the specialty occupation standard becomes harder to meet at the consulate.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian surveyors?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Australian surveyors. There's no annual cap or lottery, so you can apply any time of year once you have a job offer. H-1B selection runs once a year with no guarantee of selection. The E-3 also renews indefinitely in two-year increments, giving you a stable long-term path without restarting the process.
Can I work as a surveyor on an E-3 without a U.S. surveyor's license?
You can work in a surveying role under the supervision of a licensed Professional Land Surveyor while you work toward U.S. licensure. Most states allow this under a trainee or intern surveyor designation. Employers in federal contracting and engineering firms are generally familiar with this arrangement, while smaller private practices may need more explanation upfront.
